How can sellers advertise on ebay Australia but only post to America and am I entitled to bid on the item and have it shipped to someone in the US then have them send it to me.

Are you sure you are logged into ebay.au and not ebay.com (the US site)?

I have never logged into any other ebay but the aussie one and up the top it says G'day,I don't think they say that in the US(although I could be wrong)

It might be a case of someone from the US making a mistake and listing on the wrong site.
Maybe they're new to selling and just did the best they knew how to do not realizing they were actually listing on the Australian site.
The ol eBay mechanisms are a bit weird sometimes, even when logged into au, sometimes a link will shoot me off to the US site - so maybe that happens to them as well.
If you want to purchase the item, make sure you have a US address registered with PayPal and ebay and let the seller know what's going on too.
There was a thread here a few weeks ago where c9onfusion of location led to some unneccessary repercussions.

No gunna, you are right....G'day is the Aussie salutation. The US site says Hi.
You can also check at the top of the page....does it say ebayau or ebay.com?
I only asked because it is very easy to inadvertantly change sites, particularly if you are looking at items worldwide.
It is quite common on the boards to see members asking why they are seeng prices in AU$ when they are in the USA or the UK or some other country.
Now that we have settled the question of which site you are logged into, I have to say I have no idea how to answer your question....sorry.

There's a few different reasons a US seller's item will appear on eBay AU but the seller is not actually willing to post to Oz, but AFAIK it's not technically possible to list directly on the Australian site without including a postage option to Aus.
Since the introduction of the Global Shipping Program in the US, when a seller lists an item on the US site, eBay automatically checks if it "qualifies" for the GSP (international shipping services). If they deem the seller's listing qualifies, international shipping options and quotes are automatically set by eBay via the GSP. Sometimes, the seller has no idea their item is being offered internationally until an international buyer sends an enquiry or purchases the item, and they have to manually opt out of this program rather than manually opt in.
Sometimes, it's a problem with eBay's search engine. Items that specifically exclude postage to Australia are not supposed to appear in search results if your location is set to Australia, but ebay's search engine isn't exactly perfect, and will occasionally throw in some "bonus" items, some of which are unavailable to Oz, others are just completely unrelated to the search terms, but that generally isn't the seller's fault or doing. Although I do wonder if it could be caused by the optional (paid) extra available on other eBay sites which, if selected, increases visibility on international sites, but they might still only post to a few select places.
At any rate, yes, in general you can purchase an item, have it sent to a US address, then have it forwarded to afterwards.

Quite often if you do a search, ebay will throw up international sellers at the end of the search, particularly if there are no or very few Aussie listings. You have to be observant to find the line where they change as it is not always highlighted.
As mentioned above, you can buy & have shipped to a US address. I do it quite often. If you don't have one available, there are specialised US people who offer consolidation & onforwarding services. Very useful when buying from multiple sellers who offer free shipping in the top 48. Search ebay itself or make Google your friend.

I had a small hiccup buying from the US recently, Not via ebay but paid for via paypal. Seller was very reluctant to forward item
to Australia as my address was not verified with paypal and they were concerned they would not be covered by seller protection.
Apparently in US and Canada your address can be verified. I checked out my paypal which said I was verified, but this is apparently
not the same guarantee as verification in the US and Canada. Had to get an email from Paypal Australia, to guarantee that item
would be covered by seller protection before seller reluctantly agreed to forward item. I regularly buy from US and Canada and
this was the first time I had encountered this. Send the seller an email to find out reason, if it is an address verification problem
Paypal Australia will be able to assist

Sellers in the US used to be able to refuse to sell to ebayers without verified addresses, a different type of verification that was only available through US and some UK banks. Ebay removed this exception after Paypal agreed that they would no longer make it a requirement however that is for ebay transactions, other sites can set all sorts of exceptions and rules which are allowed by Paypal.
