Saw items on ebay and seller offered to combine and sell but off ebay . Paid by paypal and waited - ended up having an item sent to where I had purchased items , and forwarded from there ( at my post cost ) . The remaining items have supposedly been sent ( from us to aus ) but no tracking ( as requested ) supplied and the seller said they will check with customs . Sounds all bogus and now they threaten to cvlock and report due to me requesting answers and proof of sending . This person has 100% feedback on ebay , but wondering how many times they sell out of ebay . Now been months , I have seller name / address / phone details . Expect outcome to be that my money has gone and items have been resold , but how to warn others . Seller still listing on ebay .

Sorry to have to tell you this Sue but the only thing you've done by posting here is to 'warn' others that you have gone outside ebay & now you are wondering why it has gone pear shaped.
Ebay specifically states not to buy or sell outside ebay & now you've learnt a lesson re why they state that.

Sue I know it's a hard lesson to learn and it's upsetting but I hope you've learned to never do that again.

The reality is that ebay offers no protection
the op should have gone back to PP within the 45 days
ebay just collects fees

you don't have to warn others, and even if you could, what makes you think that a warning from you will be heeded when you completely ignored the same warning from eBay?
a buyer on ebay Should know that dealing off ebay offers no ebay protection, and while I am sorry for your loss of $ you did ignore the warnings.

You may not qualify for eBay protection, but I haven't seen anything so far that disqualifies you from PayPal protection. The two most important questions are how long ago was the payment made (i.e. is it still within 45 days), and what kind of payment was made?
If you sent the payment as a gift, there is no way to recover the funds, if you sent the payment for a service, ditto, but if they sent you an invoice for eligible goods, or you sent a payment for eligible goods, you have the same protection as you would if the purchase had been made via eBay and can open a dispute to try and get your money back.
By the way, eligible goods are tangible (physical items) that can be posted, with some exceptions like gift cards, and custom made items, so it may also depend on what the items are.
EDIT: Just saw the "now been months..." line of the post, sorry. But do keep in mind that you can still protect yourself and your payment when your purchase is not on eBay. PayPal at least recognise that eBay isn't the only online site their service is used. ๐

I use Paypal to pay my phone bill. What do you think will happen if I open an item not as described dispute DG ?

I feel your pain Sue I had a seller do the same to me when I first started only the item had ended. I asked if they would be relisting and they said yes they could do a buy it now for me. The sent the invoice and I paid all messages were through ebay and I thought I was buying from here then when my two dresses totaling $120. didn't arrive and I got the run around I relised. Hard lesson yes but thats ok I have become much wiser. Chalk it up to experience and I hope you have better experiences from now on

Not a lot, since it's a service and not a tangible good that can be posted, so no protection there.
