I recently made some purchases and was sent an invoice by the seller. Upon attempting to pay on eBay, I encountered an unexpected request for additional GST payment on low-value imports. The provided link led to eBay's 'Paying tax on eBay purchases' article, stating that GST is applicable to items located overseas. However, the issue arises when both the item and seller are in Australia, and the delivery is within the country. This raises concerns about the legality of the extra GST charge. Notably, others are expressing similar concerns, as seen in a recent eBay community post titled 'GST suddenly put on buyers invoice, in Australia.' If eBay is automatically and unlawfully charging GST for all purchases when buyers receive an invoice, many others could be affected.
