Hi,
I recently purchased a item, paid for said item, only to recieve a email from the selling telling me that postage was going to be an extra $30 to ship to my area.
I wouldn't mind paying that if he asked for a quote to ship to my area in the description or if an additional fee was mentioned in the description.
Postage was meant to be $19.90 flat rate aus wide apart from queensland and WA regional.
Like i said, i would happily pay if an additional fee was meantioned, but i don't feel obligated to pay the extra money because the seller was carless and miscalculated.
Is there anything official about seller miscalculating postage and making the buyer fork out the extra money.
Or is it just something that the seller and buyer need to resolve?

The seller's quoted postage is very explicit, so if you're not in the areas/postcodes mentioned in the listing (which is stated as incurring an extra $9.90, so not even close to $30), you are under no obligation to pay more, and the official policy is that the seller is not allowed to request more. At the same time, if they have indicated they will not post the item without receiving the extra, there's not a lot you can (practically) do, other than enforce the sale via legal means.
They're a new seller, and I would generally be willing to cut them some slack, though not necessarily pay an extra $30, but I also note that someone else bought the item around 5 days before you, so if they noticed any anomalies in their postage quote, they should have fixed it then (they would be better off researching the costs and listing using the rate table, which will allow them to provide up to 15 different quotes to different areas in the postage and payments section of the listing).

i would ask to mutually cancel the sale and state that it does not mention in the listing
that you would have to pay extra $30-posting to your area
and polietly let them know its not acceptable to ask for more postage money after the sale
and they should fix their listings or pay the extra themselves
it would be a very expensive lesson on making sure listings and postae are accurate

Thank you for your answers.
This has been resolved, the seller was very cooperative.
