Posting with Private Feedback

So many people complain, or call people "trolls" if their feedback is set to private.

They assume, you have no idea what you're talking about, therefore, shouldn't have to the right to voice an opinion.

Why don't eBay just remember everyone's number from showing on the boards? Just have our usernames and "show listings" viewable.

Doesn’t expecting the unexpected make the unexpected expected?

@@@@@@@@@@@

Specifically points 1 and 5 relate to advice given by private feedback members or members using an account  whose feedback or listing criteria does not display "experience" in the area questioned.

1. Adults are internally motivated and self-directed

Adult learners resist learning when they feel others are imposing information, ideas or actions on them

So whether you are imposing or whether the enquirer just feels you are imposing information or ideas is irrelevant the same result  is usually obtained

... commonly called a s**tfight.... I believe

5. Adults are practical

Through practical fieldwork experiences, interacting with real clients and their real life situations, students move from classroom and textbook mode to hands-on problem solving where they can recognise first hand how what they are learning applies to life and the work context.

@@@@@@@@@@

So.. If the "learner/enquirer cannot see practical examples from the information givers feedback or listings so that they can explore themselves then they are much much less likely to take any information in

Last tiime I posted this link some bright spark commented such

" we are not teachers we are just giving advice"

That was me. In context of my comments then and now - including, 'I tend to just relate my experiences and hope they might be of benefit" and "I don't expect anyone to agree with or trust what I say just because I say it, in fact I would hope they don't no matter which ID I posted with.", it's rather in direct contrast to " Just shut up and do it this way like we all do" or " you can't do that you are breaking the rules", isn't it?

Context is always good, helps people understand what was meant by the original comment. 😐

DG the comments  " Just shut up and do it this way like we all do" or " you can't do that you are breaking the rules", were not meant to relate to the

"we are not teachers we are just giving advice" comment and I apologize if you thought I was taking your comment out of context.

I could not remember whose comment it was? The thread that my "loose quote' came from would be 6 or 12 months old? But If it was yours and you want context then I am glad you added it.

They were meant to be an example of why question askers sometimes react to private feedback posts especially where

Just shut up and do it this way like we all do" or " you can't do that you are breaking the rules"

or words to that effect are used

I understand that some posters (and I don't mean you ) give advice and do not care whether the question asker takes it up or not or how the question asker perceives it and can just move on.  Personally, I  sometimes feel that question askers miss out especially active learners. I consider myself a redfl;ective learner so it does not worry my learning style so much

Phorum, we don't post here in order to advertise, that intent would be a waste of time as only a tiny fraction of all Ebay's customers come to the boards.

And we don't really have anyone that we know of buy anything anyway - as a result of seeng our posts.

What we do get from all and sundry is all sorts of advice - like we are interested or have asked for it:

How to respond to bad f/back - we had tons of this, how no one would deal with us as they don't like the responses. Well, with all due respect - we do deal with our customers as we see fit.

Pushing Ebay's rules down our troats - we have our own rules which we uphold at all times, don't have much time for Ebays, don't even know most of them - nor do we wat to hear all about them on the boards, again, totally unsolicited advice.

Lots of fun watching all the regular boardies (with only a few exceptios) siding with each other, like a pack of dogs, once one starts they all join in with excatly the same "advice and comments"  all with private f/backs, of course.

Point being, that without the private f/back setting to hide behind, these people wouldn't behave the same if we all sat in a room having a conversation with each other.

No reason on this Earth why that can't be the same here - but I guess tha'll never happen.

For those of you who post with your selling ID's, have you had anything negative come from that? Any "retaliation" etc?

I first came here asking question with my buying ID, on which I also sell now and then, unwanted items, clothes etc.  Over the years I then started to contribute, and sometimes we would get here some very aggressive people, and the topic would get very nasty.  Then I bid on something and the seller cancelled my bid because 'he did not like something I said on the boards'.  Then, after particularly heated topic, I suddenly got number bids by  several IDs on the couple of the items I had listed, only to be retracted.  The winning bidder of one of the items then messaged me saying they are reporting me for shill bidding - maybe it was just a coincidence......... but who needs the hassle?    Thankfully, I have never come here with my main selling ID.  When I started this ID, the first dozen of items were just bought to get the full posting rights, so they are by no way indicative of anything.

Did I miss something?  Lots of posts appear to be missing . . .

Either way, I appreciate your comments Viewmont, and there is much to be said about learning styles.  For me, seeing a huge feedback number will make me think that perhaps the member's opinion will indicate lots of experience I can learn from, but honestly what impresses me more are posters (like True Bearded) who always seem to come up with factual information and back it up (am I allowed to name members?) and those who put things respectfully.

I have dwindling respect for those  who appear to know lots but seem to rub it in to the OP for doing things the 'wrong' way, or are just so darned grumpy and critical that I'd rather hug a family of porcupines than listen to their advice.

True, people will listen to experienced people more, but one also catches more flies with honey than vinegar, so the effects of such experience can be lost as soon as something is said, depending upon the manner in which someone opens their mouth!

At least for me, anyway...

To each their own I say.

I only have 1 ID for buying, selling and posting as I have nothing to hide. I would not post anything here, on social media or anywhere else that I would not be prepared to say to someone directly. I have read the argument that by not utilising a posting/buyer ID or having feedback set to private a seller is at risk of having others maliciously ruining their feedback. In my position if this were to occur I would simply stop using this sales channel. I do appreciate that others are not prepared to take that risk so elect to have their feedback set to private or use a posting ID.

The presumption that someone with a high level of feedback is necessarily better placed to provide sound advice is flawed. They may be au fait with ebay's policies, however that may not be the case. Some learn through trial and error, or search for a policy when an issue arises rather than taking the time to read every ebay and Paypal policy prior to commencing selling on the site. The policies are also often open to interpretation, hence the regular debate on the boards.

In addition to this, a new seller on the site may have a wealth of previous experience under their belt which should not be disregarded purely because they are not experienced at selling via this channel. There is also the issue of ethics to consider. Personally I am guided by my conscience and would not search ebay or Paypal policy to find an out clause if there were an issue. For the most part selling here is common sense.

Some issues that are raised on the boards are legal/economic/financial etc rather than relating to ebay policy. Whilst our ebay experience may be displayed for all to see our professional qualifications and experience are not. As such, feedback and ebay experience are irrelevant in these circumstances.

There is something to be learned from everyone. Even if one does not agree with another's opinion, it provides valuable insight as to how others may interpret something.

Of late I have been reading the boards frequently. What is disturbing are the personal attacks. Sometimes a basic question is asked and it seems that those responding have taken the time to review the person's feedback, their listings etc etc when it is completely irrelevant to the question at hand. Criticisms are then posted about the person who is merely trying to seek some advice. I do not understand why some people find it necessary to belittle others in this manner. Thereis obviously some "history' between the members. It makes me appreciate why some choose to have a posting ID rather than use their buying/selling ID.

The assertion that adults will follow/listen to anonymous advice is just plain crazy.... no matter what the enquirer actually posts ie "Thank you thank you I will do just that" generally means "I will do that until you cannot view my actions then I will do what I want".

BUT, all the posters here are anonymous.  🙂

For instance all the people behind JHS; not sure how many of their employees are coming here and expressing their opinions.
