Refund on import tax after returning faulty item?

Hi there,

I recently received a camera and had to pay $300 AUD as an import tax (as the item was over $1000). I received the camera and it was faulty. I am now in the process of a return and getting a full refund for the item, however, I will still be out of pocked the $300 I paid to import it. 

Is there a way to get this back?
