Request of phone number

Hi, is it normal for a seller to request your phone number? I am purchasing an item from China and they advised they needed my number when shipping company delivers to me they are going to call me and the shipping company they use need it for their system, is this a normal process?

Yes, a lot of courier companies require it even though most of the time they don't phone before delivery.

I had a seller from china ask me the same.  I replied that they do not require my phone number to send me my order in Australia.  No arguments and the package turned up a couple of weeks later.
