Returning an item question

First of all, apologising in advance for asking a question that must have been asked so many times before. The more i read the more confused i am, so i'm hoping you'll have the patience to guide me through the returns process.

On 29th August i used B.I.N. to buy S.B. sheets , standard delivery, and immediately paid for through Paypal.

They were posted to me from Victoria  on the 2nd September, and i received them in Perth on the 11th September.

The sheets i received are Q.S. and while, according to the price tag on the back, are 3 times the price of the ones i paid for, i cannot use them.

On 11th September i contacted the buyer through Ebay to say the size is incorrect and i'd like the correct bedsheets.

On 13th September i received a polite apology with the following request:

'' You can send it back and we can refund you the postage.

Once received we will send you the correct size.

Let me know when you send back the item and the postage cost. ''

Is the above the correct procedure and i'm guessing i will have to return them with tracking?

How can i prove i actually sent the unopened sheets in the package?

Should i be going through Paypal?

Given the time everything has taken, now to return them and then to wait on receiving correct bedsheets, will i still be able to eventually leave F.B. for the seller?

Again sorry for these questions, my first time doing this,  and i really want to get it right. Thanks 🙂

Re: Returning an item question

You all make sense 🙂

I have requested the seller to send  a prepaid, fullytracked satchel made out to their address as suggested by phorum junkie.

Waiting on reply now but glad i came back here before posting.

Thanks very much!

Re: Returning an item question

Seems it's not so easy as i thought. Email received from the seller  this morning:

'' It would be easier if you sent it back and we will give you the refund.

We don't have pre-paid satchels, the items are too large for that.

It would be faster and easier if you send the item back via post.''

You might be familiar with how the seller posted the item  to me so i'll describe it as best i can.  The sheets are in a pale grey plastic packet that self-adheres at one end.  On the front there's a printed white address label with AP article id , my address,  senders address, weight, small print at bottom with Aviation Security And Dangerous Goods Declaration. The weight is 1.45kg so possibly more than i paid for postage? The label is covered by a sheet of protective plastic.

It doesn't say what it cost to mail to me

Any suggestions as to what i should do now?  ( At present i 'm almost wishing i'd kept the darned thing but this is being purchased  on behalf of a  learning disabled person who could really do with a decent pair of sheets )

Thanks for any replies to this ongoing ' Returning an item question'' Woman Frustrated

Re: Returning an item question

I don't know if this makes any difference to seller's reluctance to help me with this but i noticed the address he's given me  to return it to is a completely different address and business name to the senders business name and address on the parcel, although both within Victoria. Thinking perhaps items are dispatched via another party?

If it was me I'd probably send the seller one more email pointing out the discrepancy in the return addresses and explain that to cover yourself you will need to open an MBG case with ebay. They will then have to provide return shipping for their mistake if/when you win the dispute (and you will in all probability win the dispute).

Re: Returning an item question

+1

That's why you don't return ANYTHING on the seller's 'promise' to refund when they receive item.

I'd open a case with eBay immediately, they can't be trusted to do the right thing.

Re: Returning an item question

I did an 'Item Not As Described' on the same day I posted here to ask you all about returning an item.

This morning i asked Ebay Customer Support to please resolve the postage issue and pretty much immediately  Ebay Customer Support  decided in my favor and are crediting the purchase price plus original postage to my Paypal account.

I guess i keep the sheets.

So thank you Ebay Community for walking me through this with so much patience,  and thank you Ebay Customer Support! Great result 🙂

Re: Returning an item question

Kameti,

glad to hear you have received your full pament incl. postage.

However, you still have the sheets that do not belong to you.

Seller gave you the chance to return them, you didn't trust them to pay your postage - so Ebay gave you money back without having to return the item!?

How does that make it right with the seller.

It amounts to appropriating other people's goods.

I don't care if it's 1c. or a million bucks, - same difference - it's no longer yours.

Nothing stoppinng you from paying them into their PP account - just to keep it clean and honest.

Just because Ebay has a very flawed system doesn't make it right in anybody's books.

And after all that, I'm 100% sure seller would have re imbursed you for postage - it wouldn't make any sense not to, amount is too small and petty for a seller who obviously wants to continue selling and has a business on Ebay.
