I have been informed by several sellers who normally ship to Australia that Royal Mail will not longer ship precious metals (ie jewellery or silver items) to Australia - are we now deemed a 3rd World country ?

Have you actually read this VERY old thread?
At that time no-one could work out why Royal Mail was refusing to ship jewellery as there was no restriction here.
As far as I can ascertain nothing has changed in the last 3+ years.
What have you been told about shipping or not shipping the ring?

If you read the whole thread which is some 4 years old you will see that at no time has anyone been able to see why ebay/Royal Mail has said there is a problem with shipping jewellery.
I must say that since this thread was started I have had a number of packages containing jewellery and they have all arrived safely.
If you have seen the statement on an Etsy listing maybe you need to ask that seller where she got her information.

I would also ask what an etsy listing has to do with eBay. Especially after all this time.

Funny reading that International Signed For from UK is not trackable. It isn't trackable by the public but Aust Post can track it, as I discovered when a purchase went missing. I had no idea where it was but AP did - it had been wrongly addressed to they had sent it back to the seller. This isn't the only time AP has been able to tell me the whereabout of a ISF / Registered parcel.

same here zanadoo, aus post directed me to P.O. in next suburb as UK parcel incorrectly addressed.
