Scam

This classified listing, for a Harley Davidson motorcycle, is linked to a Google Wallet vehicle purchase scam. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290933387682

It started it's life as a BUY IT NOW listing, which obviously didn't work, so now it is as above.

The "seller" makes contact and wants the buyer to pay using this BOGUS site: http://google.wallet-ltd.com

I have reported it to Ebay, Google and the domain registrar and they have done nothing about it. The listing ticks all the boxes as far as Ebay are concerned: offers Paypal, has a phone number, etc.

Maybe if lots of people flood the "seller" with questions it might go away?

Anyway I hate people trying to rip me off and I have done my bit. BEWARE OF CLASSIFIED LISTINGS !

Below are the first and second emails I received after making contact:

  1. Sent: Monday, June 24, 2013 10:17 AM Subject: RE: 05 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FLSTCI Heritage Softail Classic for $9550
Thank you for the interest showed in my bike, and sorry for the late reply but I have just moved to England with my job. Don't worry though, the bike is there in Australia, stored with a transport company. It was left to me in my father's will 2 months ago, and to be honest I have no use for a bike and I never owned a bike before and I don't even have a license, but I can assure you it runs as great as it looks, my father took great care of it. The price I am asking is $9,550 and it includes shipping anywhere in Australia. Because of this situation, me being in UK, I have made special arrangements that allow me to sell the bike there without me being present and will allow you to inspect it, so if you are still interested in it please email me back so I can explain to you how can this be done safely for both of us.

Here are some pics of the bike: http://img46.imageshack.us/slideshow/webplayer.php?id=32718410.jpg

    Cheers

PS: please get back to me so...

  2. Sent: Monday, June 24, 2013 12:17 PM Subject: RE: 05 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FLSTCI Heritage Softail Classic for $9550
The bike is now at a transport company in Darwin NT, all packed and ready for shipping, it was taken there in storage after I left the country. I want the transaction to be handled trough Google Wallet http://google.wallet-ltd.com.au because they offer protection both for buyer and seller and you can ...

Just on 10K is a lot for anyone to lose, but I fear some young person could get sucked in. If you search for "Google Wallet vehicle purchase scam" it has been around for awhile, but this is quite sophisticated the way a dedicated domain has been set up and knowing how to navigate around ebay's scrutiny.

Um er maybe the same dingalings who come onto the boards complaining about being ripped off when they bought something at a too good to be true price, knew it but bought it anyway ie check the hijack hunters thread & see how many people have NO common sense-sigh.

Scam

$10k for a hardly ridden Harley.

As Bill Cosby would say - "Right!"

Interesting that they are not claiming that eBay/Paypal has an escrow service.

From Google - Note: Google Wallet does not accept payments via Western Union/Money Gram, nor does it use any escrow type of payment.

That solves that then. Mind you, it took me 5 seconds to find that information.

As with most scams, this one is self-selecting; the mugs select themselves by seeing the bargain and not doing simple research.

Caveat emptor.

I wonder what would happen if I logged into my Google wallet and tried to pay for that bike?

Maybe it would be me who scored a freebie, I purchased something from Google+ on the 24th, delivery expected on the 27th. On the 27th Google wallet still shows the payment as pending and nothing had come off my card. Rang them up and they said there must be a problem with my payment and to call back next day. parcel arrived half an hour later and they still have not taken the payment, nearly $300 (Au$450)!

Totally agree. Check this advert from justauto.com.au and notice the difference in Km's compared to the 5800Km's on eBay. Also the referencing auuser1111 post which indicates:

VIN: 5HD1JFB176Y029443
Rego: 1H4VQ-Vic exp Dec 2013
Engine Number: JFB6029443

Again noticing that the justauto.com.au advert states no RWC or Registration.
