I think that Ebay should make the seller show on each item if there is a limit on how many items that can be purchased any one buyer.

Why ?

I'm also curious as to why and what has prompted this.

I agree.
I purchased a BIN pick up only item some time back that was fairly cheap but I was going to buy quite a number of items from them and pick them all up together.
When I went to purchase the 2nd item, I was blocked cause of the buyer restrictions the seller had (ie Block buyers who are currently winning or have bought (x amount) of my items in the last 10 days)
The seller I had purchased from had it set at '1' because they wanted people to come and pick up there 1 item and then purchase anything else directly from them.
I went and got my item but it left quite a bad taste in my mouth so they didnt get any more sales from me.

Some sellers put a block in place that limits how many items a buyer can purchase from them in any 1 week period. For the most part, sellers use it with expensive items - the type most people will only buy one, like TVs, preventing scammers from buying up big and also helps curb auction interference.
That being said, some sellers use it on items where buyers typically purchase many different things, for example, jewellery findings. Say I want several items from the same seller, and to take advantage of combine P&H. I start buying 2 of this, 3 of that... then when I go to buy something else, I'm blocked. While I could do many things, including contacting the seller and asking to be exempt from their blocks (which I only ever did once, years ago - phone verification - and frankly would not do again), I'd simply end my purchasing, and wish I had known so that I could plan what I purchased beforehand.

There is a lovely o/s seller from whom I have been buying a lot (cannot get the same thing anywhere else) but she has it set up that I can only buy 2 items. I usually wanted to buy 3 or more, when I asked why, she explained that it has something to do sending things out of her country. As they are all BIN it would not make a difference to the postage, but is annoying.

Meant to say BIN with FREE postage 🙂
