Seller Issues Refund - No Explanation

I purchased an item on 16th May and paid by Paypal on the same day. I had no communication from the seller until yesterday when I received an email stating that they had a death in the family and that my item would not be posted until after June 4th.

I replied that while I have every sympathy for their situation, it would not have taken much effort to send me an email earlier explaining this so that I would have understood the situation. I reminded the seller that the auction stated that if the item is unpaid after 3 days it would be relisted. If I had not paid and not communicated for nearly 2 weeks I would have an unpaid item strike against me. It's just courteous to let the other party know what is going on.

This morning, the seller cancelled the auction and refunded my money without consulting me. At no time did I state to them that I wanted a refund.

So where do we stand now? It's rather strange that this seller had no time in the last 2 weeks to email me and let me know that she had family problems, yet she could somehow find the time today to refund my money without my knowledge.

Did you win the item at auction?

They may not have been happy with the price so using excuses.

They can not cancel the transaction without you agreeing to it so if they send the request to mutually cancel decline it.

You can leave neg feedback to let others know of the problem.

If the death was genuine then I guess ebay would be the last thing on their mind so look and see if they have left feedback in the time you have been waiting or done listings.

Look for any activity on their account.

If there is none they might be genuine but in the end there is nothing you can really do if they do not want to send it.

Perhaps they presumed that you no longer wished to buy the item ?

It's up to you now as to whether you want to leave any feedback or just forget & move on ie buy from someone else. It's also their loss re getting a refund of their FVF from ebay as they'd not obviously asked you for a Mutual Cancellation.

JMO but I'd forget it unless they had other negs for similar failure to communicate in which case I'd add to them.

Yes I was the only bidder at the auction. The original price of the item was substantially higher than what I won it for.

They did not send a request to mutually cancel the auction, I received an email from Paypal stating that the seller had refunded my money. Don't understand how that can just happen.

I have looked at feedback activity and there has been none for items won after my auction date.

I know what it's like to have a death in the family, I had one recently.

I just don't understand how Paypal can issue a refund without consulting me regarding mutual cancelling of the auction.

paypal did not issue the refund, the Seller did

paypal do not question their clients (in this case your seller) as to why they are sending anyone money, it is none of paypal's business to know.  millions of refunds go thru a day for items that are unavailable, not as described, no longer required etc.... paypal just follow the directive of their client and issue a refund as instructed

Paypal hasn't issued the refund-the seller has.

No one needs to consult you per se & there has been no mutual cancellation as seller has obviously not sent you one to agree to.They have simply used the refund option in Paypal.

Yes sorry it was BIN, so long ago that I had forgotten. BIN means that the seller offered to sell it at that price so one would assume they were happy to accept that price. Does it matter whether it was BIN or not? It was a binding contract regardless.

Well if the seller can just cancel it and refuse to provide the item without having the courtesy to inform me, or offer any explanation as to why they cancelled it, then I guess the only option is to leave appropriate feedback.

The seller may be making up excuses but in this case I would belive them. They have sold many new brand name clothing for less than you paid.

I think that the message you sent them was very harsh esp. if they are going through such family problems. Ebay may have been the last thing on the sellers mind.

I have had a similar thing happen and hey things happen and they contacted you it may have been late but they still tried to explain.

I am a also thinking they canceled your order because of you message. I think maybe u were a bit tuff this time sorry.

Re: Seller Issues Refund - No Explanation

I see no other reason to refund your payment other than the seller is telling the truth as obviously the price it sold for is not an issue.

Of course you have other options,  you could give the seller the benefit of the doubt and leave no FB at all.

I do hope you think about leaving feedback before hitting the red dot,  it could be quite possible the death in their family was not sudden, I was called away from home for several days due to a terminally ill relative, the last thing I thought about was ebay.  I was able to return home for one day before traveling back to tend to funeral arrangements, and did not even turn on my PC, I had other things on my mind,  in all I was also missing for nearly 2 weeks, 😞
