ebay's accepted payment methods are PayPal, Payflow and merchant account. Merchant account means credit card processing. They are all within the ebay's checkout platform.
I am a seller as well and i used to offer paypal until paypal froze my account with no reason, ruin my sales and paralyzed my business. They are champs in freezing peoples account for no reason, plus their higher fees prompt sellers like me to use alternative sources. This is the reason that i opened a merchant account and i left paypal and im sure many other sellers did as well.
With other forms of payment through ebay of course, payment methods i mentioned above and when they run through ebay, are 100% secured and you still get the buyer protection by ebay. Unless the seller is doing unreasonable demands, like for example to send a check or to pay outside the scope of ebay sales, then i would worry but as long as the payment is done through ebay site, i wouldn't worry much

I luv reviving old threads. WHy is it that sellers do not except paypal? the fees are not that much on top of the high fees of ebay, I do hate them though.
WHats the cost of a merchant CC facility?
If a seller doesn't like paypal they should just offer paymate which it seems not many people use anyway. That way payment is likely to have to be done by DD.
Who cares what payment method is secure, as a seller I honour a sale and am happy to replace or refund if something happens and why is direct deposit not a secure payment method, it goes straight into my bank account, seems secure to me.

It's secure for you but not for the buyer.. How does the buyer know you have their money? They have to rely on the seller being honest.
The secure payment methods are more for the buyers protection..
If something happens and the item doesn't show up, isn't as described, doesn't get sent in the first place etc then the buyer has no recourse and has to rely on the seller being honest and refunding their payment,
The seller also can't open up a Non Paying Bidder dispute if something was paid for with Bank Deposit..
eBay care if a payment method is secure, you are required to list one safe payment method be it PayPal, Paymate or merchant credit cards.. Those are the rules.

The items you sold recently all had only PP as payment option. never heard of payflow, but Paymate is more expensive than PP and why do you think they will not freeze your funds? i bet that if there is a claim against your account they will also freeze your funds. And why should that ruin your business?
Buyer can do chargeback on their CC too.

ebay care so much they tried forcing people to use just paypal at one stage. That was a great rule.
I am curious also if they care so much about buyer protection they allow so much counterfiet items on ebay.

How could eBay possibly asses what is genuine and what is not? maybe they should employ experts who would be knocking on sellers' door and checking that their items are not counterfeit?
eBay is just an advertising medium, it is up to buyers to be careful; and if they buy something that is not what it should be they can use eBay/PP protection to recoup at least some of their money. If eBay removed every item the moment somebody reports it, that would be hardly fair.

Paypal just froze my account without reason:-(I can no longer use them and can't get my money out for 6 months. There is always a reason why people don't use paypal. They treat you like a criminal with your own money. I have always followed the rules and have no reason why they suddenly classed me as a security risk.

Paymate is only 20c more per transaction and its impossible for them to freeze anybodies money, they dont have it, it goes straight into the sellers bak account.

If you are not happy with a decision paypal have made, you can contact the banking ombudsman and they will be able to help you. I'm not sure its legal for any financial institution to put a 6 month hold on your money.

That usually happens if your transaction levels or amounts spike and you refuse to provide them with the additional proof of identity they request.
