I purchased a video game console almost two weeks ago that had a faulty link cable port (plastic keeping the pins in place was cracked). I was not able to test that it would work correctly until another order arrived a few days ago. As expected, it didn't work and the plastic ended up falling right out.
I've messaged the seller a few days ago about a potential repair; they have been active but haven't responded. Do I wait longer, or would I be in the right to just open a refund request? Or am I out of luck?

No. you don't wait
Open an item not as described dispute and follow through with it

Immediately do as Sandy suggests - open an - item not as described case - don't bother with the seller - you'll just be strung along.
Read & follow all the case requires to be refunded for a faulty item.

Oh - & if required to return the item for a refund - use the labels eBay provide - do NOT do it your way - do it their way.
That way you have proof of return.

As sandypebbles and domino say, DO NOT WAIT.
You have 30 days after receiving an item that is SNAD/INAD (significantly not as described / item not as described) to open a claim.
Read all of the timeframe information in the eBay Money Back Guarantee help page. Donโt expect a nanosecond of leeway in these timeframes.

As above, but also if the seller says they will refund or send a new one if you close the case.
Do not close the case.

Further to what Sugar said, don't accept the offer of a new one being sent. It's refund or nothing. Most of the time when a seller promises to send a new one, they don't. They know it's enough time for a dispute to time out.
