Seller's getting away withr ripping off buyers!!!

Im feed up with buying items from seller's and then they do a "runner"...
How is ebay letting them get away with this?
I have brought items 4 or 5 different times and the seller has taken the money and shut up shop.
This is happening more so now than before.

Im sick. of putting claims into paypal on regular basis. so what can we do about it?

And some seller's are setting their own postage prices and its getting ridiculous...

I think ebay should look into postal costs and have
set prices. I really think this would work. out so much better..

I dont know what catagories are you purchasing from, and if the items you are purchasing are of the risky sort, but i have been on ebay for a while now and have only ever had 1 problem with a buyer selling and not  sending.

are all the purchases of the same type, or from the same country ?

are you taking precautions to make sure you dont purchase high risk items, are you vetting sellers by checking their feedbacks and not purchasing high priced items from a seller that had very few feedbacks , or lots of feedback for low value items and then selling very high value items ?

it may just be luck of the draw in some cases, but also i do think that buyers can actually do something towards not being scammed on here. do the reading and the research and lower your risk of being ripped off.

Agree with the above, after making many purchases you tend to become better at weeding out the sellers that look potentially risky. Sellers with 5000 plus trans and close to 100% are not going to risk their ongoing business for a few dollars.

Also descriptions that have time and effort placed into them are unlikely to be a runner.

As well, some items DO get lost in the post, I have had a few from genuine sellers I regularly buy from.

Maybe focus on the ones that have the correct postage cost in place, that in itself could be an indicator of a more professional seller.

Have these sellers been selling for some time and got good feedback?

Are the prices too good to be true?

and a seller cant just shut up shop, it takes 60 days to close an account, the only way for them to disappear is ebay deregistering them because they are scammers and you seem to be falling for them

after reading your reply kopenhagen it made me think either the buyer is , buying from high risk auctions on here and being scammed, but also seeing there are 4 or 5 not delivered items all in a relatively close time frame, if the items were all purchased from different sellers, maybe the OP needs to do some investigation into their postal service.

i have seen a few times on the news and today tonight employees of aust post and courier companies being caught with 1000's of pieces of mail in their houses.

it may be a rare occurance , but if you happen to live in an area where that is happening it would explain a lot.

also i would consider where does the OP live, is it in a block of units or somewhere else where there is or could be a high chance of theft from their mail box

The OP has left 2 negs so far this year. One seller had FB of 91.1% the other had 90.8% I think that explains a lot.:O

kazndaz,

the price of postage on eBay is set by the info the seller enters into the calculator and the postcode the buyer lives in.  If the price comes up incorrect that is because the info seller put in is not correct.  How could eBay know what the right info is?  And the actual charges are set by AP, not the seller or anybody else.

If you buy from sellers with such bad FB you are taking a risk.  Anything under 99.5% is risky.

Hmmm, but the latest NEG was left on the 8/3 for item bought in the USA on 17 Feb, 2013, from seller notorious for slow posting; it may very well be still on its way.

obviously they are not ''getting away with it'' if (1) you get a full refund from paypal and (2) ebay shuts them down

as mentioned you cannot close an ebay a/c overnight, only ebay can do that, you have to wait at least 3 months from date of last sale before the a/c can be closed, and up to 180 days to close your paypal account.

so, no one is 'getting away' with anything.

have come across a group of 5/6 scammers all giving each other great feedback, l think they open accounts for a few weeks, only accept bank transfer, take the money @ run. Never bid more than you can afford to lose if buying from a new seller. Hopefully they will build good feedback eventually, if not, your loss is minimal. Yes, reported scammers, but found it hard to find a correct forum to do so thru ebay support (?????)
