Seller wants to cancel transaction

Hi everyone, if I could get some help please as to what I should do in this situation.

I purchased the item (#310580588709 ) on 17-Feb-15 and paid immediately.

No item was sent and I heard nothing for 6days, so I  emailed and asked about my order and if they hadn’t sent I wanted to cancel and get a refund.

They responded and said quote ” we regret to inform you that when we were preparing to shi.p the order to you, we found that the last few pieces in stock are damaged and not suitable for sale. After contacting with our supplier urgently, they informed us that the item is unexpectedly discontinued and it will not be available again in the near future In this situation, we will fully refund your money within 48 hours. We apologize again for any inconvenience caused to you and looking forward to hearing from you soon.”quote.

I received the refund next day however since then it appears 'unpaid item” under My purchase history.

And today I recieved a cancel transaction request message from the seller which did not provide a specific reason. Also says if I don't take action by 09-Mar-2015, the seller will be able to cancel the purchase without your consent.

The seller is based in US but item location says “Regents Park, NSW, Australia”. Prior to this purchase I only checked his feedback which had  eBay Top-rated seller (not now) and item location. Despite I narrow searched Australia only, this seller came up and only realised he was based in OS after I purchased (grrrr)

Similar things happened to me before without the seller sends  cancel transaction request, so I'm lost on this.

I have not left an appropriate feedback yet (will tho)and am I right that if I accept to this request he gets his fees back? Will I also get an Unpaid buyer strikes against me?  I think it smell fishy that he didn’t provide the reason.

I just want to move on. Thanks.Smiley Happy

Re: Seller wants to cancel transaction

Agreeing to a cancellation will not affect your account or result in a strike, and as you did pay but the seller refunded, there shouldn't be any way for the seller to open an unpaid item dispute (I won't go so far as to say it's impossible, just that it's unlikely, and if they manage to, any strike that results from it would certainly be easily appealed).

The seller must choose a reason before a request can be sent, so perhaps it's just that it isn't relayed to the buyer anymore (the entire process was updated recently, and a seller now only has a choice between two reasons - 1. the buyer asked to cancel or there's a problem with the addres, or 2. (I forget the exact wording) that they're out of stock and can't supply the item.

If you decline the request, yes, the seller still has to pay the FVF that eBay charged, but it also means (in effect) you're indicating you want the transaction to proceed, which can't happen by the sounds of it, so the only purpose to declining the request would be to make the seller pay whatever that fee was. (Moot point in this case, because you did pay for the item initially, but I am almost certain that if a buyer declines a cancellation request then doesn't pay, an unpaid item case can then be opened because the transaction is supposed to proceed as normal).

Ignoring the request is basically the same as agreeing to it, just prolonging the FVF credit.

Re: Seller wants to cancel transaction

Thank you digital for taking the time to clarify my concern.  I often read here and learn a lot from such experienced members like yourself.

What a bummer that I truly think he does not deserve to have the FVF back. I was also concerned a bit when the”unpaid item” appeared my purchase history.

I think I will just ignore the request and move on.

Thanks again.

Re: Seller wants to cancel transaction

I dont see a problem here they gave you a valid reason as to why they could not send your item, if they sent you a damaged item then you would not be happy with that, so they decided better not to do so, and they promptly refunded your payment, which now is risky in the new Ebay resime as could count as a Defect against the seller, just agree to the cancelation notice, no harm to your account, and if you do leave feedback dont make it a negative, as they did the right thing anyway.

I don't understand your post:  you say I have not left an appropriate feedback yet (will tho)and am I right that if I accept to this request he gets his fees back? Will I also get an Unpaid buyer strikes against me?  I think it smell fishy that he didn’t provide the reason.

but the seller did provide a reason, he said the item was damaged;  and he has refunded your money;   so you have not lost anything, there is no strike, and now the seller is asking you to cancel the transaction so he can get his fees back.   In my opinion I think this is quite reasonable

Re: Seller wants to cancel transaction

You would rather receive a faulty item than be advised beforehand of the flaw, with a full refund?

I understand the 6 day wait is not ok in my opinion, but I'd rather have a refund than a knowingly faulty item be shipped to me.

If you search that sellers listings and click on Australia only, you will see that out 2225 listings, 441 of them are located in Australia.....including the item you purchased. I highly doubt someone who's items are in the US would be offering Fast & Free and posting via Australia Post.

Given that the listing you purchased from is saying there are none of those items available, the seller is probably telling the truth. He has done everything he possibly can from a sellers point of view. He was upfront and honest and he issued a refund no questions asked. The least you could do is accept the cancellation. After all, he could have just sent a damaged item and risked another negative feedback, which you went ahead and gave anyway.
