Shame on you Australia Post - 30% Increase is completely unjustified!

Hi everyone

Not sure if you are aware or not, but Australia Post has just increased their postage charges by 30% and this will flow on to buyers & sellers alike. Whether you buy with ‘free postage’ or buy with postage as an additional expense, we can all expect to pay more.

What has really got up my nose is how Aust Post can justify the previous charge of $1 for ‘signature on delivery’ with an increase today of $2.95 for the same service! This charge is now being applied to the ClickandSend ebay/austpost satchels that many ebay sellers in Australia use.

We are already fighting a losing battle to remain competitive in the global market because of our extortionate postage costs within Australia and to post internationally.

Sadly to say, I feel we are going to see ‘free postage’ go by the wayside now. Because 90% of buyers are using Paypal, sellers need to show ‘proof of delivery’ in the event of a buyer opening a dispute in Paypal, claiming an item has not been received. So many parcels go missing, whether through theft, damage, fraud or abandonment and if the extra $2.95 for a signature on delivery is not taken up, then the seller will automatically have the case closed in the buyer’s favour. It is that simple. Registered Post is no longer. If you want Registered Post, it will cost $2.95 for the signature on Delivery plus $1.50 to cover than article up to the value of $100!

This petition now has media interest with a phone interview from Karen with ABC Radio the Sydney Morning Herald’s article and callers ringing into 2GB Radio in Sydney.

In closing, if I can say one thing… there is nothing that riles an aussie more than seeing fellow aussies kicked when they are already down 😞

TOTALLY AGREE with you 100% this rise is SHAMEFUL & a DISGRACE..people say the economy is booming sorry id like to know where this planet is.. ebay fees rise, Aust post fees rise..my sales are down BIGTIME and not without trying..this is the WORST economy I've ever experienced and yet ebay and australia post think what they are doing will increase business..this will destroy small, hard working businesses..to the pair of you SHAME

Arr they should have doubled the rate and put an end to all you tin can peddlers once and for all. 

Ebay can you raise the FVF to 25 percent im shore everyone here agrees you are deserving of it. LOL.

Aus post I think you need another fee increase on your postage products. You know its hard times now maybe if you double the current cost you will find business much better, less to move at twice the money sounds like a plan. LOL  happy days are here again. bring it on.

You people are damn spoilt, this is not a bad economy. Australia in the 1960-70s was much much worse than this youth unemployment was enoumous. They had people retiring at 55 to make way for the kids to get a job, Unemployment was massive, money did not exist. You have no idea how well you have it.

This is not bad times yet you havent even got close.   1960-70-80s  was way worse.

On another note, I just had a encounter with a company call "Pitney Bowels Inc" ever heard of them? Well apparently they are affiliated with Ebay USA and tried to add an extra $34.04 to the already expencive Priority postage from USPS which was only $16.85 (Small package) I don't know what kind of increase that is but it's ridiculous. It was the first time ever that I've payed someone with Paypal and the seller didn't receive all that I paid. And that was where I discovered this company. No mention of them in the listing or the invoice,  just found that paypal gave them $34.04 of what I'd paid. So keep an eye out on the unusually high priority postage from America, it's a scam! (AN in house scam!)

That poor seller would have signed up for eBay US' new scheme Global Shipping Program. You should read about it. It's totally horrendous.

I've heard about the disaster that is global shopping and know in one instance, it was responsible for a sale crashing here in Australia from USA.
