I bought a product from a seller on the 19th of August. They said it was posted on the 20th of August, but when I use the tracking number the provided to track my package on Aus Post, it says its being prepared. Nothing has changed for over 12 days and I'm not sure if I should be worried. The package was estimated to be delivered on the 31st of August - 1st of September, but I still haven't reviewed a package and it's the 1st. The seller also says that they have send with Couriers Please, but the tracking number is for Aus Post.  Should I be worried yet?

I ran out of time to edit...

However, once I had been given a wrong tracking number (by mistake, it was not a scam)  and it said "it's being prepared", which surprised me because I thought that tracking status is only for valid numbers. Maybe it was somebody else's tracking number.

Definitely do not close the case until there is resolution, no matter what the seller says or promises. Four days after opening the case, it should be resolved in your favour - just keep an eye on it.

As others have said, please check overall feedback and comments before purchasing.

If you don't purchase regularly, 95% might seem like a good number, but in reality it is a poor rating for a large volume seller.

I don't purchase from ebay too much, but I did assume that 95% was good. Should I look look 98-99% from now on?

I have opened a case, but clicked that I wanted my items? Should I stick with it and wait it out, or should I request a refund and buy from somewhere else? The seller has been leading me around in circles and I do think it may be from China. They say it should have arrived, but the tracking number still says the same thing, that is is being prepared. Any advice would be great.

100% unless the bad negative is something explainable.

You need to read the negatives, and I looked at the ones from your seller, and there is no way I would touch them

For large-volume sellers, as a general rule I wouldn't purchase if the feedback percentage is lower than 99.95%.

Lucky for me.

95.6% is very bad, particularly for a big seller. With small sellers, sometimes a single negative feedback rating from an angry buyer can take the total feedback down to really low levels, but with big sellers it should ring a bell.  Funny how eBay calls this seller a top rated seller and one of eBay's most reputable sellers...

If you have opened a case in ebay, you need to follow through and get your refund now.

When something doesn't arrive by the time it should, you have 2 options really.

You can elect to 'stick with it' and  wait a little longer or you can open an ebay claim for item not received. Deciding to wait a little longer though does not mean indefinitely. You pretty much have to open a claim within 30 days of the expected arrival if you want ebay to step in so you can get a refund.

Opening a case is basically saying that you are not prepared to wait any longer and you want a resolution now. If you waiver from that after opening a case but then decide to 'wait it out', you won't be able to open another ebay claim for this item.

So no, you need to get the refund, no matter what the seller says now.

Look at it this way. No matter where the seller's item is coming from, the tracking number is still saying 'being prepared'. It hasn't moved on as you would expect it to and it hasn't arrived. Whether it is from China, Timbuktu or only 2km down the road, you haven't received it, so the bottom line is you need your money back.

With regards to feedback ratings, I generally have a look at the negs and see if there are any common themes. Sometimes people are given a neg or a neutral for pretty unfair reasons and if they are a small seller it can drag down their ratings. You'll be able to make a judgement call on that yourself and then decide if a seller seems worth the risk or not. Generally for big sellers you'd expect a high 90's figure. I've bought from some whose ratings have been about 97%, which some would consider iffy, but they have been fine for me. Just always check out the feedback first to get an overview.
