I recently had to reclaim a payment for non-receipt of an item from a now deregistered seller. I ordered the same item from a different seller and paid via Paypal on 21/10. The expected dates of arrival were given as 03/11 to 17/11. Now the dates have been altered to 25/11 to 09/12 with no explanation. Should I be worried about this transaction? I've sent a message to the seller about it and also to ebay.

Did you look at a current listing for the same item as you bought?
If so, the expected delivery dates are those that would apply if you bought the item today, not the dates that would apply to your transaction.
Just be aware that the expected delivery dates are often wrong.....items usually take longer than the ebay estimates.

The dates given were definitely altered. I've now ordered from a third seller in case the items from the replacement seller don't arrive. I thought maybe the second seller was also the original, just under a different name.

I never take any notice of expected delivery dates. They are usually totally fictional, a combination of ebay and Aus Post optimism.
As a general rule I give domestic items 10 to 12 working days to arrive, 15 to 20 for overseas and then if there is no tracking information showing the delivery is expected within a couple of days I open a dispute in Paypal, you can still give it another two weeks before escalating to a claim if you wish.

Where are you looking at the dates? If you click on the listing in your purchase history, it's still going to show the dates for if you bought it today, as Lyndal said. Even if you look at the order details, it will still show dates for if you bought today.
As far as I know, a seller can't change those dates. They are a computer generated eBay thing that will change daily.

I just read feedback that the seller is not genuine, in fact the buyer says they're a scam.

There's something amiss here. Just had an email from ebay that there's an investigation into the seller, but they can't tell me any more at this time.

The buyer, meaning one or one neg?
Put the item number up if you want people here to give you a better idea or if you are worried about the seller.
As others have said the delivery date is given by eBay & is usually not realistic. The changed delivery date is based on when payment was made & optimistic U.S eBay times.

OP, as others have said, the date showing is for listings that are still active/live. Listings that have ended don't show a date, they either show an estimated number of days for delivery, or sometimes nothing at all depending on the postage calculator/settings used. See below for an example of active/live listing deleviery estimates & an example for an ended listing.
If you buy something BIN and the listing has more available it remains active, so the deleviery estimates stay current for other prospective buyers to see.
As has been stated, the estimates are generated by ebay and are based on; the items location, handling time as set by the seller, your location, delivery method chosen, + Australia Post's overly optimistic estimates.
As has been suggested, it really would help if you provided us with the item number.

hmmm that's weird, since when have I not been able to spell 'delivery' ? Not once, but twice I made the same mispell. 'Odd' indeed.
