Thumbnail image size too big - Another stupid idea from UI design team?

I noticed that from today the thumbnail image size in search results (& possibly other pages) has gotten bigger than before (seems like 4 times bigger), meaning less items shown on page at any one time. If you are on a XGA LCD screen you may only see 4-5 results per page, and ready to scroll and scroll to see more. Everything is now so spaced out that it's such a pain to scroll through & compare a list of items in a page, unless of course your screen is capable of 8000x6000 pixels' resolution or more, that's probably what the design team in ebay are using otherwise they won't blow up the thumbnail to this scale thinking everyone else will be happy to see larger picture at the cost of more scrolling & clicking.

I guess many people want to browse through a list of items as quickly as possible and personally I don't mind a smaller thumbnail if I see something I like I will open up a new tab for that item and keep on browsing the list. I don't think trading a larger thumbnail with more scrolling is a cleaver idea at all. It just cause more pain to scroll.

By the way I have tried customizing the view but it always return the large format even I chose to view in medium and small format.

Just another ebay's innovation that's completely useless and non user-friendly. I would have fired the design team and UI team long ago if this is what we call User Experience. Or is it just me complaining about ebay's changes in the last couple of years?

I know this change had been implemented in some other ebay sites already but is it really a good change?  What's your opinion?

Size of pictures doesn't bother me.

But they removed seller's feedback score. All I can see from search result is if the seller is TRS or not. I like to see feedback score in the search.

Yes, it's too big and the quality of the image also seems compormised. I use a large & laptop mac and ipad and on all 3 they look ridiculous...almost slightly faded. Not very enticing when colour and crispness is a selling point.

They've also removed the ability to add an item to your watch list, from the search results.

I have a similar similar message to yours in another discussion and I agree 100%. I am a book collector and search hundreds of listings daily and thousands weekly, the large thumbnails increase the search time by at least another hour daily. I feel sorry for the dialup users who would not cope with the large downloads required.

It will reduce sales for many sellers

My beef is that ebay have disabled the Customise View where you used to be able to adjust the image size.

The old days were good for fast searching, there used to be 3 icons at the bottom of any results page and thumbnail size could be changed with one click

I love your poll, well done, hopefully as time goes by many disgruntled people will at least get ebay to allow the CHOICE of thumbnail customisation to allow faster searching.

Thank you for your post, I had to ask Ebay Help for a working link to find this Forum, the hot link in their Alphabetical List fails to work, it was acknowledeged by the Ebay Help that the link had failed.

Images in Search Results are gigantic ! I get two to a screen in a 200 per page List, this takes ages to load on my **bleep**py Copper Internet connection & delays my searching by hours, this is intolerable, just as you said allgrain, when trying to adjust the results to small images or even medium images, the results defaulted to gigantic (large) images. This slows dowm my searching massively, makes my Ebay experience horrible & frustrating, knowing I will miss items that I collect, I wonder what the sellers think if their items cannot be seen by searchers.

This has happened before (last year I think) & ebay did fix the problem, it is fine to have large images in search results provided a buyer can adjust these to small or medium, that is not the case & ebay providing less choice again.

I am not sure what to do, I have put in a complaint which has received replies asking for more data (which surprised me) that was 3 days ago, no further reply since I sent a screenshot of 2 images per screen except an automated reply.

Choice is the key, if you search thousands of listings daily as I do, then it must be done quickly & Ebay is preventing me from doing that.

How on earth did you manage to find a 3 year old thread?

I doubt that the OP will ever see your thanks as he/she has not posted again since starting this thread.

If you need further help I suggest you start a new thread as most posters do not come back to such old threads.....too many things have changed in 3 years to make most old threads relevant.

Reinventing this 🙂

I have a brand new computer ... however, the searched images are huge and the page takes forever to load both in Chrome and Firefox.  This only happens on Ebay.
There was a tool that let you choose from three sizes but I don't seem to be able to find it now.  I thought that if I changed the size it might help the page load faster.

On the right hand side of your search page is a button for 'view'

If you click on that you can customise the view to small, medium or large.
