I have successfully bid on an item this arvo. But am having trouble going thru checkout. I have tried 4 times since 6 p.m. Have sent an email to the seller to let them know I'm having trouble. Have also emailed ebay customer support. I see its an error 70049, whatever that is...does anyone have any clues, has anyone had the same prob today? I'm getting worried in case the seller thinks I'm dodgy!

Don't try again, as the money is actually being taken out of your account each time!
I have paid twice for one item and it's still showing as not paid in checkout.
I hope my seller is a nice honest person!

I have received double payments for three separate purchases, however I haven't refunded as yet in case PayPal fix their own stupid mistake, in which case I won't have been paid at all:^O I'll phone them in the morning and ask what they are going to do. Things do seem to be operating normally now, except for the double payments which are still there.

if you google "error 70049 paypal" you will find about 60,000 results, one of which is the official Paypal list of error codes.

Oh great! I finally went thru checkout successfully then (which made it the 5th time !). I have kept my seller in the loop all nite re: this and have just let them know I have successfully made payment...so if all the attempts have debited my account on each occasion, I also hope my seller does the right thing (or ebay and the seller do the right thing). Thanks for the above info everyone, I'll keep an eye on my account to make sure it ends up ok.

Yes - we had one buyer who paid us 5 times!!! We refunded four of them before we discovered there is some sort of paypal glitch and that it wasn't just a user problem (hopefully Paypal won't also refund them 4 x because that would mean we've lost about $100!).
Also noticed a couple of other transactions where the payment has been made OK but the transaction hasn't shifted from my awaiting payment to awaiting postage in selling manager pro (one of them only a few minutes ago so there are still problems this morning).
We also had a problem with a purchase we made with Paypal last night not on ebay - that transaction remained pending when it would normally have gone through straight away - so the problem would appear to be at paypal end and the way it is interfacing with its clients.
One thing I HAVEN'T noticed is any sort of announcement / alert. Perhaps someone else has seen something and could post the link (but I won't hold my breath!).

No, I didn't see any alerts etc prior to, or even today, re: the hassle I had last night. However, I did get in touch with ebay customer service by email and they were quite helpful and emailed me back this a.m - but I had already done part of what they suggested i.e. getting in touch with the seller. I also checked my paypal account and sure 'nuff, all my attempts to pay had been debited from my account. Certainly a lesson well learnt for the future! However, just wanted to let you all know there has been a happy ending today and my seller was great. All extra payments were refunded to my account, and the item (only bought last night) has already been posted. I also use paypal for a couple of other things, but am hesitant to use it for a while until things sort themselves out. (All my ebay icons re: status of purchase process and refunding are all 100%). Fingers crossed everyone, hopefully this will resolve very soon, but some kind of announcement from paypal or even ebay on their behalf would be handy.
