US seller not following through on free shipping for other items purchased

Tonight I purchased 2 slabs of fudge from Texas. After carefully reding the listings for both flavours I wanted and reading at the bottom of the listing "As of January 25, 2012 we will have to charge shipping on the first fudge ordered. All additional orders will ship for FREE" I assumed (rightfully?) that I would not be paying the second lot of postage. I emailed the seller to request an invoice and promptly received back an invoice with a note saying "These will come in two seperate boxes. It is the most economical way to ship fudge to austraila. Thank you! Those were good choices they are both YUMMY!!!!" I understand it is from another country but if the seller does not offer this deal to people outside of America shouldn't it say in the listing?

Here is a link to one of the fudges purchased:

I have sent the seller a polite email explaining that I think they need to have in the listing that it is only free combined shipping in their country as it is very misleading. I will not pay for 2 seperate boxes but Im unsure what action to take from here e.g. emailing eBay as it says I can not "resolve a problem" before 10 days. Hopefully the seller sees my point of view and we can come to an agreement.

What are fellow eBayer's opinions? I know it's probably not a lot of money to most people but why pay for something that was stated in a listing would be free. Thanks for reading ๐Ÿ™‚

As already said; it is the top section and the postage tab that are binding - both ways.  That is where you need to look.

Anything put in the TOS is really meaningless; just as if sellers puts FREE postage on the top and then somewhere in the TOS they give postage quote.

You have 2 choice; apologise and ask for cancellation, or apologise and pay.

Yes the seller was wrong for not saying the frree post was only for domestic sales but even if they aggreed to honour it it would still only apply to the purchase of 2 lots of the same flavour, it would not have to be applied to seperate listings.

Okay - stupid question - but why would it have to relate to the same flavour??? Why could a 'choclate' flavour (well wrapped I assume) and - I dunno, a 'coffee' flavour not be shipped together?

I admit, had a coulpla wines with dinner so may have missed something?????:|

They are seperate listings.. The point is, while they can be shipped together, if the seller chose to give a discount to Australia, it wouldn't apply to two seperate flavours as they are different listings.. It would only apply to two of the same flavour as they're the same listing..

Or something along those lines ?:|

Exactly Patchoo, if it had been two of the same listing the buyer could have had a reasonable expectation that the seller would honour what was said in the listing but they made no mention of discounts when buying a different item.

Re: US seller not following through on free shipping for other items purchased

There are a few ways a seller can set up postage discounts. Here's a simple way to tell if the discount applies to multiple different items, or just the listing you're looking at.

If, on the normal listing page, there is a 'See Discounts' link, the seller has set up postage rules that apply to more than one listing and will be automatically calculated at checkout if purchases are eligible for that discount. As there is more than one rule a seller can have, each listing must specify the same discount to qualify.

If that doesn't make sense, here's an example.

You click on the 'See Discounts' link and the pop-up says something like "50 cents postage per item when you purchase additional eligible items from [seller]". You look at another listing and click the link, but this one says "Free postage for purchases of $100 or more eligible items from [seller]". These are two different rules and the second one doesn't qualify for only 50c extra postage, nor does the first one qualify for free postage if you purchased $100 worth.

If there is no 'See Discounts' link, but when you look at the Postage and Payments tab there is $x.xx for each additional item, that discount applies to that listing only.

There's just one thing to remember - in variant listings, if you purchase one variation then go on to purchase a different variation and it only has the "$X.XX per additional item" in the P&P tab (so, not the see discounts bit) then the eBay checkout treats each purchase as if it was made from a separate listing and full postage is charged for each item unless the seller sends a revised invoice.
