USB Capture cards - watch out

Everyone,

there are THOUSANDS of USB capture cards on eBay, those that convert analogue video signal into digital. The most popular current type is a so-called "DC-60", which is cheap.

A word of warning - these cards do not work properly. To work with Windows 7 applications, the card has to be recognised as TWO separate devices, one for video and another for audio, and appear in the two sections. For example, VLC media player has to be able to see it listed twice to work.

These cards instead capture audio by using some kind of dirty trick, not Windows compliant. Most of the times, the "trick" does not work, not even with the supplied software.

I purchased one card, didn't work; the seller sent me another one free of charge without asking me to send back the first; it didn't work either. The seller then refunded i full the money. I find myself with two non-working devices and a lot of time wasted. I tried on 2 different PCs, one with 64 bits Win7 and one with 32 bits - same issue.

Just watch out.
