I bought 2 canister filters. One was faulty with missing o rings. I notified the seller and they tried to sell me filter attachments that I didnt need. They offered me a $20 refund which I eventually accepted. However, now they wont give me my refund until I change the negative feedback. I believe the negative feedback is justified considering the issue is still not resolved and Ive had to drive 100km to town to purchase parts to make the filter operational. What can I do? Is it worth going to the department of fair trading?

Open a dispute for "not as described" with eBay's MBG. Do not close it until you are completely satisfied with the outcome.

Why did you not open an item not as described dispute?
Have you reported the seller for feedback extortion?
eBay give buyers the tools to cover themselves when this kind of thing happens
They only work if the buyer uses them
No point wasting the time of Fair Trading who will tell you the same thing
Next time, rather than play along with a seller like this, use those tools
What is the seller's feedback like and where are they registered?

You don't have to put up with that nonsense.
Padi and sandy are 100% right.
It sounds as if you have not been given any refund and this was, in any case, a private agreement.
So forget about that.
Go straight into a proper ebay claim. Now. As long as you didn't receive the item more than 30 days ago, you'll be right.
Claim for not as described, faulty, whatever.
I would personally hold out for a full refund. The seller would then need to supply you with a label to return the goods (I am hoping this seller is in Australia?)
I would not accept any offer less than half of what you paid for the 2 items.
And nope, none of it is dependent on you changing feedback. You can report the seller for feedback extortion, it is against ebay policy.
The seller cannot stop you opening an ebay claim and once you do, he is not in control.
