Vetting out True Australian sellers.

i have a concern re Ebay Australia. So as to support Aussies and small businesses, I will vet Australia only advertisements. I then have to vet out items listed as Australia from those listed primarily from China. To be left with what i am looking for supplied and shipped from Australia with Australian Stock. I find i am consistently being deceived by sellers claiming to be in Sydney, wait 2 weeks shipping (should it actually ship) then call on seller toadvise of late delivery, only to receive a response from an ebay.com.HK address by seller. Then find when it finally does arrive find it to be drop shipped from China. How can i vet out and support true sellers in Australia? My trust in anyone advertising to be in Australia is becoming first Question i am asking and i will just boycott power sellers period as in the last 5 transactions this is exacty what is being done. Loosing faith in comunity standards and honest non deception ads. How do i sort this issue as reporting said sellers seams to be falling on deaf ears? What say you ebay??

This is a member to member forum.

You are not communicating with ebay.

To answer your question, simply look at the sellers feedback page to see where they are registered.

That will tell you whether they are Australian or not.

The estimated delivery date is also an indication.  If it's 3 -4 weeks away then the item is not in Australia.

eBay wonโ€™t answer your post, but as an eBay buyer I can say that there are some indicators in listings to help weed out non-Aussie sellers.

1. Price is not too low;

2. No Australian flags or other โ€œAustralia Australiaโ€ signage/pics - almost always something of a giveaway;

3. Estimated Delivery Date range is not so long as to cause suspicion;

4. The brand stated in the item specifics is not โ€œunbrandedโ€;

5. The wording of the listing is not mangled or poor English; and most of allโ€ฆ

6. When you click onto the sellerโ€™s feedback score, you can see where the seller is registered - so if the seller is registered in Hong Kong, or China, or Philippines, or whatever it may be, it will be clearly shown,

You may still be fooled by sellers registered in Australia who are dropshipping from Chinaโ€ฆ but a look at their negatives over the last 12 months (click to isolate) will very likely show a common pattern of items coming from China,  very slow postage, poor quality items, etc.

You are responsible for who you choose to buy from

If you are constantly being deceived it shows you are constantly making bad choices and supporting dodgy sellers

You have all the information you need right in front of you before buying

The sellers you have left negs for clearly say they are in China, have feedback in the toilet but you support them anyway

You obviously don't do any due diligence before buying,  if you just looked at the feedback of the last few sellers you have purchased from,  you would never have bought.

This comment really says it all  ''How do i sort this issue as reporting said sellers seams to be falling on deaf ears? What say you ebay??'''  .... Previous buyers have left the sellers bad feedback,  yet you still bought from them,  it's not Ebay with deaf ears,  it's you as a bad buyer with deaf ears,  other buyers are telling you but you continue to support them,   What do you say??

What i say is i do all as you advise, Yet still get caught with false and misleading sellers. Been on here a long time, do my diligence and look at all feedback re times, price etc. Yet here i am after hitting the buy button and getting advised 5 days from cleared funds and delivery advise, waiting and had timetables shifted after i raise the item has not arrived. This is my fault how exactly? Feedback i have noted lately is sellers asking/pleading to review and change feedback if neg or neutral feedback received (which i dont do as it stacks the books in deceitful sellers).. This leads them to remove said feedback via ebay as being unjustified and making the feedback untrustworthy. Have a look next time and the figures dont add up. IE says (for want of a figure) 6500 salesI spose the easiest solution is avoid any sellers in Sydney and any power sellers from my shopping...PS Victim blaming as you have is part of the problem and NOT a solution...

You are correct with all the above, however, looking at feedback is becoming an incorrect representation by sellers. Due to some ebay rule changes, a seller can ask ebay to remove feedback, if a seller asks, due to a poor or negative feedback. This is also true of sellers asking to review the feedback to the buyer with carrot pleas ( partial refund in exchange for  a better feedback score) so it doesnt hurt their ratings. Ebay is of zero help with the robot replies and i can never get through to anyone at ebay for assistance. The very reason i am here asking the question. This last purchase scenario came about even after i checked all the Items you list and more, somewhat verified a true seller, yet here i am having to deal with it again.

just spent a good bit of time to the ebay help desk personal (not the robot) through the online helpdesk, re this issue, i also asked if they read this forum. Was advised yes and highlighted this scenario to them. They advised i have been more diligent than i really needed to be and have made a case for it. will see the outcome in the coming days weeks if it made any difference. Cheers all for responses.

I very much doubt if anything will change, you have been given the usual "feel good" response from CS.

They are not going to act on the Chinese sellers with bad feedback - they don't have the power to do that.

Just do as the experienced members here have told you.

1. Check feedback and country of registration.

2. DON'T buy from sellers with poor feedback or you can expect problems.

I learnt very early on in my to do those very basic steps and I rarely have problems with purchases.

Caveat Emptor.

Surely we can't be suggesting that buyers are responsible for their own choices?

If it's listed. you have to buy it

Keep on helping dodgy sellers stay in business and then blame others

That's the way to do it
