WARNING: Manufacturer Warranty not valid when item purchased on eBay

Hi folks,

I have been just stung by something that I was unaware about manufacturer warranty.

I purchased 2 x Philips AirFlossers brand new and sealed in a box from an individual within Australia. He had very good feedback.

I received one correct model HX8211/06, and one wrong one (Older one HX8111). Long story short, I ended up having to go through a refund since the seller became unresponsive after I returned the incorrect item to him. So, I got my money back and I left negative feedback.

3 months later, the "good" item HX8211/06 stops working. On the Philips website, they offer 2 years warranty. I call Philips and they say that since the purchase has been made on eBay on a non-authorised reseller, my warranty is void and they will not honour it.

eBay and Paypal also refused to help since 3 months is past all their buyer protection timeframes.

Therefore guys - please check VERY CAREFULLY warranty terms when you buy something brand new on eBay.

Learnt my lesson. Purchased a Fitbit versa from an eBay store and it stopped working now. I contacted the seller but they wouldn’t buzz so I raised a PayPal claim but only to be told nothing they can do. In desperation I contacted Fitbit and was told not covered by warranty due to being an eBay item. Not sure If I would buy anything from eBay from now. It is totally disgusting that eBay or PayPal or seller don’t give a rat. ACCC should take this thugs accountable. It’s hard to believe how scam all it is.

This is a 6 year old thread.

But like anything else unless you buy from an authorised reseller,  never count on a warranty.

This has nothing to do with Ebay. Sorry but unless a manufacturer offers global warranty, you will find that there will be no cross border warranties extended and same again with purchases through unauthorised outlets.

This is nothing new for brand name products and again, it has nothing to do with eBay as there could very well be an authorised seller of a product on Ebay but if they are in the US and you buy in Aus, the warranty is not covered. There are also many "grey market" sellers and generally the price difference between an authorised outlet and these sellers is discernible. You should establish that info before purchasing

i know this is from 2015 but its now 2022 and will ad that AEG power tools give no warranty on NEW items sold on ebay as well ...

companies are circumventing Australian consumer rights

Was the seller you bought from actually authorised to sell/re-sell that particular brand?

IF so, report them directly to the company 

The seller you left the feedback for is not the company itself

As always, if they are not authorised to sell the brand, there is no warranty so how is the company circumventing Australian consumer rights when you did not buy it from them?

It's not up to AEG to give a warranty for their items if they are bought on-line from a seller that is NOT an Australian registered authorised seller/reseller of their items.

Quite simple really..................
