What feedback?

I bought a cheap item with free post from a chinese seller.  It arrived promptly and was a good transaction all round.  however, the item itself is a piece of **bleep**.  (surprise, surpise!)

I don't want a refund - I realise you get what you pay for. I do not want to punish the seller either. My dilema is what feedback to leave, that will help future buyers.  What will hurt the seller the least, a nuetral or low dsr's on product description?

I have bought a lot of cheapies from chinese sellers, some good, some very bad.  It's a risk I am willing to take; but some buyers don't want to take the risk, so information about the item should be able to help prospective buyers.

Feedback is voluntary, not compulsory, so you're really not obliged to leave anything at all, but if you do, remember that a neutral is every bit as bad as negative feedback for a seller, as they both trigger a defect. If you don't want to punish the seller too much, just mark his DSRs down a little, but no lower than a 4 for "Item description" as a 1, 2, or 3 will also trigger a defect, despite the notes stating that only a 1 or 2 will do so.

Perhaps a note saying that the seller was friendly enough but the item quality could have been better. It's up to you in the end, but anything other than a green dot will ultimately hurt your seller.

As mentioned, don't leave any. Feedback is voluntary.  Your statement "was a good transaction all round" IMO is a contradiction to what has happened. If it was a good transaction, you would be happy with the item, but you said "The item was ****" If you wish to help other sellers, say that in the feedback.

Don't take this f/back business too seriously - as no one else does!

If we did - by right, no one with even a single derogatory f/back wouldn't ever sell anothing thing!

Except that it just doesn't happen.

Sellers of cheap items will always sell them - no matter what f/back you leave, due to a natural human greed - to get something at next to nothing prices.

Second reason - not many of us read f/back, and even if we do - someone else's opinion doesn't  mean anything - after all, it is only someone else's opinion and "we know better".

And most impportant thing to consider when leaving f/back:

I would never put a blanket statement on all their merchandise saying it's rubbish or inferior quality or whatever - as it certainly is not true and you simply wouldn't know.

Next time (suppose ) you buy something from the same seller it might be great!

Lastlly, what do you care about "warning the others" - they can all  make up their own minds - they are not 5 year olds.

And we all manage to go through life shopping our heads of from non Ebay sites where there is no f/back "to warn others" at all!

Those are usually much better than Ebay - as well as much busier!

If it is rubbish, you leave a negative feedback..

Regardless of 'what you get is what you pay for'  no matter how cheap, if an advertised (described) item does not work or perform to advertised spec's and standards, the seller should desist from selling until they find a product that can do what is promised for the price they charge.

Greencat - agree up to a point, mostly don't.

How much is an item has all the bearing on the quality. In everything. How it's made, what materials are used, quality of workmanship, that sort of thing.

Did you think and /or expect that any company would use top quality materials just to go and sell it for few dollars?

Tha's not how it works.

And this adjective: rubbish - what does it mean - and  who decides what is and what isn't.

Appart for convetional term that we all know - as in household garbage.

Cheap stuff is a different market from those who buy quality goods.

Not that it's anything particularly wrong with cheap **bleep**py items - they have usually short lived life, get disposed of and new stuff bought.

On a perpetual merry go - round.

You must have heard of the saying:

Poor people (those who buy cheap things) always end up paying the most.

You get a cheap Chines bike from K Mart, leave in the rain - it rusts straight away, rust seeps into the wheels, eats your tires, they are continually flat and need replacing.

Then you go and spend a thousand dollars on the bike where everything is stainless steel and chrome - and it doesn't happen!

No use saying the first one was rubbish, I mean, you can say it all you like, but it wouldn't be fair on the maker of that bike.

Take the bike back to KMart and get a refund. Trust me, you will have no trouble at all.

Nothing is cheap if it does not do what it is meant to do for the price paid, and buyer beware has nothing to do with it.

If you can not provide an item that does what it should, or meets expectations (in the description) for the price advertised, then you need to stop selling substandard products, or you need to amend your description, or increase your price........

Alot of Chinese sellers sell cheap krap, we all know that, and most of us steer clear, but if you did purchase a 'brand new pack of 10 black ball point pens' for 0.02c they did not work, then you have been ripped off...........

Like I said, a bargain is not a bargain unless you get what you wanted for the 'discounted' price.

You are right to a point, but..

If it matters, probably better to contact the seller, voice your concern and await their response.

A negative out of the blue with no chance to resolve beforehand is not pleasant.

As cq_tech says, Feedback is not compulsory.

There have been a few instances where I have bought things and the packing of the seller or quality has not matched expectations.

One time a UK seller sent me a 1787 sixpence TAPED to a piece of cardboard that they described as a 1787 shilling.

On most of these occasions, I have left no feedback at all, only left bad feedback a couple of times for what I considered to be spectacular incompetence or something we could not resolve.

It is an individual choice, I don't like getting bad feedback and tend to avoid leaving it for others. Karma, maybe...

I apologise, that was the one thing I did not mention, and I should have, ALWAYS contact the seller..........sorry, knee jerk reaction to substandard products and the reply to my earlier post.

Buyers should always try and get a seller to rectify an issue BEFORE taking any action, and feedback is the final stage of the process.
