When is Ebay going to make it mandatory for sellers to advertise where their products are made. I am currently not prepared to buy anything from EBAY if its made in China

You would have to ask eBay
I doubt it will happen, a few people have stomped their foot and demanded what listing should state already
Or you could ask the seller yourself before buying
You've got it spot on though , if you don't like something, don't buy it
from eBay or anywhere else
Can't do better than that

Well then, everytime you buy something, on line or not, you had better start asking where an item was actually made and not its country of origin. you will be amazed at what companies (probably a majority) have their products actually made in China, and if not the entire product, then it will quite possibly have components manufactured in china and assembled in India etc.

Yes, I quite forgot about that
Not every single part of every single thing was made in the same country
So basically sellers would have to start where each tiny part was made too
And where the item was assembled

Exactly. Apple products are full of Samsung parts (don't tell the Apple ra ra boys, they'd be horrified!).
My car is Korean made (Kia), but has parts from all over the world, including China. My last car was also Korean made (Hyundai) and was 14 years old, and absolutely nothing wrong with it, when it had an incident with a rather large kangaroo at 4.30am one winters morning. It also had components from all over the world, including China. I loved that car.
I don't know where the brake pads came from, but when the car was written off at 14yo, it still had the original brake pads on it. There was 130,000km on the clock. The original battery became a battle. It was still working perfectly after 12 years (yes, years), probably Chinese made, but Mr Tippy insisted it get replaced. I was enjoying the me against the battery battle, but Mr Tippy wrecked that!
Moral of the story is, not everything that comes out of China is carp. If they are manufacturing for a certain company, then they must produce the item to that company's specifications. If they don't, they lose the contract.
As for the OP, I would assume that nearly everything came out of China, unless told otherwise.

Rule of thumb - if it's unbranded, not listed as handmade by a local seller, and the seller doesn't state otherwise, assume Made In China and you'll be right 90% of the time (I'm basing this off the fact than when something is made in countries like UK, US, etc, it tends to be either branded, or at least advertised as "Made in [insert exalted "western" country here]!"
If it's branded, then you can probably google where it's made pretty easily.

I don't think they will.
Same as in shops here, many things are made in China but that information is not usually on the sales tag.
A better strategy on ebay would be to check out where your item is actually coming from and that you are buying from a seller regisetred here in Australia.
And before you buy bigger cost items, maybe research brands beforehand. Sometimes you can buy Australian made, sometimes it is almost impossible to, but at least you can choose which brand to support.

Not a bad suggestion, and I wish you luck. . You could also ask the seller where it is made before buying.
What you say makes sense.
Buying a solar power system for example, you may find that the inverter is made in Japan or a European country, but the panels are made in China. It does pay to ask.
