Hi,
I recently bought some shoes from China and they are way to small. The seller has agreed to take them back and send a larger size on recieving the small shoes . As these shoes took four weeks to arrive, I'm worried that I'll run out of time to do anything if there is a problem with the new shoes. Should I go directly to Paypal Resolution centre now or wait untill the 60 days are up?? Just slightly confused when it's appropriate to involve paypal?
Cheers,
Martin

well, you do get to keep the shoes, and on $20 including postage, that's probably close to the seller's profit margin. It will cost you (I think) a minimum of $20 through International Pack and Track to return the shoes for exchange.
It really might be best if you try to on sell them on eBay yourself, or find a neighbour with that size feet for whom you buy a christmas present!
But yes, you are correct in that dealing through PasyPal it buys you time (not for feedback on eBay though which is 60 days) but I am still not sure that the item is actually Significantly Not as Described.
As I said, I wear a lot of european shoes and depending on the brand, I have a 3 size variation, and on runners, I have a 2 size variation.
Maybe chalk this up to experience, recoup what you can, and maybe ask for specific measurements next time.
(Un less this is a style and brand that you have so that you are comparing apples with apples iykwim)
They might even make a nice gift under the KMart giuft tree or something, if you do that kind of thing.
I just can't see how you will be better off money wise by exchanging them at all. This is an unfortunate issue when trading internationally. Because even if the shoes were completely wrecked or totally not as described etc, you would still have to return them (in most cases) before PayPal would issue the refuind.
You can always try, through communication, the seller may agree to increase the refund, I guess, or offer to cover cost of return post (but I doubt that when the post is more than the shoes)

to post them back you would have to register them and it might cost too much, see if the seller can give you a partial refund and you keep the small pair and sell them here and buy something local

for payPal you only have 45 days - NOT 60 (It's 60 for feedback)
I would not return anything without PayPal direction, however, if the exchange is for the purposes of "change of mind" PayPal can't help you.
PayPal can help you with Significantly not as described and Item not received.
Keep in mind, if you do return the shoes, there is no guarantee that the seller will send another pair.

Thanks for that info. The problem with the shoes is that they are listed as a size 8. Size 8 is my size but these shoes don't even come close. I've taken 3 photos of three different size 8 shoes I have compared to these Chinese size 8. The seller said I have made a mistake with my feet. No, I've been a size 8 for 40 years!! So no, it's not a "change of mind" thing but an "item not as described".
So, it would be prudent to visit Paypal resolution centre and continue there? I'm a little worried about the seller not sending the shoes when they get past the 45 days ( thanks for that info, I'd forgotten it). They have offered me $4.00 refund on a $21.00 purchase. I think that's a little low as I'm stuck with shoes I cannot wear and don't know anyone I can give them to.
Cheers,
Martin

Yes, you will need to go through PayPal, but I am not sure how you will go to be honest.
IF the case is found in your favour, you will be instructed to return the shoes at your expense by a trackable means of post and I think that might cost a fair amount of money for a $21 sale - does that include initial postge?($17 if you include the refund )
I haven't seen the listing, but I do know that shoes are all different sizes and fits, even within the same brands! It depends on their country of manufacture - I recently came across this when trying to buy some runners, even the same brand were different sizes although marked the same size iykwim.
So if these shoes are marked as a size 8, you may very well lose a case for SNAD.
Something that may hurt or help would be iof the seller included measurements in their listing, or if you asked specific questions about sizes and measurements prior to bidding.
I have 2 different sizes of Nikes here, both fit though. But I am a different size between say Birkenstock styles, Papillio and NAOT, even though they all go by European measurements. And my NB runners, my country road boots and my RM williams boots are all different sizes again.
I do wish you the best, but it may be a case of taking the refund, and trying to sell or gift the shoes here yourself to try and recoup some money.

Thanks for the info my*mum.
I thought that by going through Paypal (not escalating it though) would give the seller and myself some room time-wise as postage from China always seems to be loaded on a small Junk that's powered by paddles. They did provide general info on sizes, eg Size Au 8 = Size US9 = size Eu42 on the listing, but when I put a pair of my other size 8's, it is very small indeed. It's more like a size 6.5 or size 7.
So would a $4.00 refund on a pair of shoes that cost $19.95 (including postage) would be fair? I've been a member for some years but this is the first problem I've had ( Touch wood). I do know that Asian listings of clothes etc always tend to be very small indeed and so buy accordingly. But it seems shoes are a mine-field for problems.
Cheers and thanks for the help so far, much appreciated indeed.

Very true indeed.
I thought the table he has with all the sizes would be correct but your right, shoe sizes do differ even with in the same brand. I'do as you suggest and chalk this up to experience. With clothing, not a problem but shoes are a mine field. Unfortunetly, I have another pair of shoes on their way. Someone with a size 7 foot will love them, just not me.
Cheers,
Martin
