Why do some clothes sellers do this!

Another listing for an article of clothing just now where the seller has provided the measurements in inches.

This is Australia, not the USA. We don't think or talk in inches in Australia. Yes, I know that an inch is 2.5cm, but as I was taught - as an Aussie, in an Australian school,  to measure and think in cms - why on earth must they do this??!! If the description says "26 inches" - I have to get my calculator out and convert it. So why not use Australian measurements - i.e. cm's???!!

Just another problem with clothing listings on ebay that needs sorting out. Yes as I mentioned in a previous thread, measurements should be mandatory - and when they are inserted into a description, the only accepted measurement should be cm. This is Australian ebay - use cm's.

On an Australian cooking site, would it be irritating if only pounds, and ounces were used for measurements as per the USA - or would we like to not have to convert everything to what we can understand.

So annoying!!!

I was born and educated well before metric measurements were introduced.....in fact  before decimal  currency existed.

It did not take all that  long to become familiar with decimal currency because part of my job at the time involved adding up  invoices and typing them up for the customer.

But measurements and weights were a  different matter.  By the 70's I was a stay at home Mum with a baby and a toddler.  It was not a major part of my life as I was not using it every day.

I now "think" in dollars and cents, but not in cm and kilos, simply because I did not/do not use them every day.  As some posters have said.....not all industries use metric for everything, even after all this time.

I kinda get where you are coming from, but I truly reckon that if these types of requirements were implemented they would further take away the very differentation that has made eBay so successful.

Our trading community is made up of sooooo many different sellers and buyers, thousands of types of goods, big sellers, small sellers, occassional sellers and those that spend a little on eBay and those that spend a lot.

I love the variety !!!!

As a buyer we are in the driving seat as to whether we will buy someones wares or not.  Whilst it may be frustrating to have to ask for measurements etc, who knows ... maybe if the seller had put them in the first place in the format you desire, it may have been sold quicker and not available for you to purchase anyway.
