Why does Ebay offer support for seller with item not arriving?

I ordered an item on July 20th, with it clearly noted that delivery would be by July 30th. Item did not arrive by then, so followed order up - had not been sent. Seller kept giving a tracking number that showed no history. Due to the delay in getting item, we had to purchase elsewhere. I then raised a complaint with Ebay, with Ebay now coming back saying the seller has now responded saying I should received the item by August 23rd.  Ebay is happy with that response. So the seller is allowed another 9 days to send out a product.

This seems grossly unfair. Seller can literally dictate even if they want to send out item, and seller, who has already paid, has to just sit and wait.

If the expected delivery date has past - open an item not received case.

The seller could still be playing games - to stretch the time over 30 days.

They don't

eBay is all about the buyer

Have you opened an item not received dispute?

No use 'complaining' you must follow the correct process and follow through with it

You have the MBG use it

The buyer does not have to 'sit and wait'  and the seller cannot dictate if they send the item

You could also choose to leave the seller neg feedback

How much do they have already for similar 'tricks' ?

Was it from the dodgy as seller in China who has left 'recent feedback ?

I'm a bit puzzled by the responses to lotzrgood.

To me, it is sounding as if he may have followed procedure & opened a dispute with ebay.

He said:

That sounds as if it may have been an official dispute. We were also told the seller gave a tracking number that showed no history, so what i interpret that to be is the seller generated a tracking number but never actually got it to the post office.

I am wondering if the fact it had a tracking number was enough for ebay to automatically give the seller an extension of time for the item to arrive.

I could be wrong, we would need lotzrgood to come back to clarify some points.

But if he did open a dispute with ebay for item not received and if tracking showed it had not been received by post office, then I think OP should have won his dispute. The item is coming in almost a month late.

I am all for giving a seller a break if the item is delayed in the post office system, but if tracking shows it hasn't even been lodged, then buyer should win.

I can't imagine that lotzrgood doesn't know the system, it reads as if he does to me.

"This seems grossly unfair"

IF  you've opened an official dispute and IF  it's the seller who has given you feedback, it's a LOT MORE than grossly unfair.

The seller has 88.8% feedback.

63 negs and 27 neutrals mostly for items not received and giving FAKE tracking numbers.

You should have been given a refund.
