Why does ebay allow sellers from overseas to advertise goods not allowed into this country?

Things like plant seeds will usually not make it through customs, but the sellers don't refund. Why are these goods allowed to be advertised?

Well Tassie is not that beautiful. I lived in London England for a while, that's very very beautiful

London can be very beautiful Michelle. Yes! Talking about the city, there are some beautiful buildings there. Fantastic architecture! Lovely parks etc.

So, if you're talking about certain aspects, then yes, I have to agree.

You should be entitled to a refund at least.

The reason the seller should not have to refund you is that if customs confiscate an item, then the seller definitely sent it.

So sellers are out of pocket for the item and the postage cost.

It's not as if they failed to fulfill their part of the sale or sent a faulty item.

They are not responsible for what regulations every country has or doesn't have. That is up to a buyer to check beforehand that they are actually allowed to bring that item into the country.

It would be great if no prohibited items could be advertised on ebay but I imagine there are a lot of grey areas eg some types of seeds allowed and not others, and ebay would not even know for sure if some prohibited or sub standard items (by Australian standards) were being sold without doing a detailed check of every ad and even then, it would not pick up everything.

So at this stage, it is up to the buyer to check and if things do go wrong and an item is stopped at customs and destroyed, then that is the buyer's responsibility and they need to take the loss.
