Perhaps you are buying from Asian sellers?

I prefer to pay more, buy local and get peace of mind.

And after seeing 60 mins last night, I don't want give anything to China!!!

I have only ever had one item go missing coming from china (out of about 500) and I got a refund and it arrived 2 months later (not though ebay though). I class myself as an honest seller but I get grief from ebay and buyers. Ebay is the problem, it is their platform....

What was the china story about? I am sure you know that a vast majority of products (at least partially or raw product) are made in china. Its also funny (no doubt the story was on working conditions and child labour which is not funny) that 60 minutes would do a piece on china a month out from the government signing the china trade agreement. Who broadcasts 60 minutes?

I know Dylan.

This was a story on the ease, quantities and disrepectful way China is exporting synthetic drugs, constantly trying to find a new one not yet considered illegal and with no regard to how it effects Australians or individuals from any other country.

Out of the 500 odd items you have purchased from China, do many of them fail earlier than expected or are you disappointed with the quality?

(I am only guessing OP has been purchasing from China, H.K. etc. It could well be otherwise)

Maybe you need to choose your sellers more carefully and make sure you are allowing enough time for the items to arrive.

The delivery dates given by ebay are only estimates and usually not connected to reality at all.

I have been buying on ebay for 10 years and in that time have bought thousands of items with very few not turning up at all.....maybe 10 have gone missing completely in all that time.

I did forget to mention a couple of times (maybe 4 times) I have been sent the wrong thing or something is faulty (and basically can't send back due to cost). On all times a resolution is reached without any intervention from any 3rd party. I don't think the chinese sellers are all that bad and generally speaking are quite good. I find dealing with smaller sellers better than the bigger ones.

On that 60 minutes story (which I didn't see), I thought Australia brought in new laws a few years back to stop people selling those type of drugs as a few people died from them. I have had a fake type pot before but I didn;t think they can sell it anymore after people died. The real thing is healthier.

Sounds like you have had a very good run.

I am also involved in retail and the rubbish we come across from China is almost unbelievable.

Not just our business but the many other retail stores we are in communication with.

So much of the stock arrives not working and it is clear to see it left the production line in that state.

Then if it is working, items so often have small defects making it unsaleable.

I don't buy from China, H.K. or Taiwan anymore, it does more damage losing customers as they don't always think it is the manufacturer's lack of QC.

Not to mention the disappointment of the children if they are toys.

In our eyes, China especially are more about the money than making it a better world and I will go as far to say most don't give two-hoots.

I have also attempted to rectify many problems with the Chinese but generally they are not interested in learning if the money is already good.

Supporting the local industry is also something I am a big fan of so this is perhaps a good post to say - Lets buy more Australian. Smiley Wink

Not just China, here in the UK so called 'legal highs' are manufactured to order, as soon as the authorities find out the contents and add it to the list of banned substances one of the 'cooks' changes the recipe slightly so they can continue to sell their noxious and very dangerous drugs.  South America is also a huge source of prescription drugs, homeopathic drugs and health suplements which are not made to the same standard as everyone thinks they are and can contain anything from floor sweepings to talcum powder and worse.

I've never really been happy with any of my eBay purchases (but that rant had its day on another thread...). I think it's because I really value being able to touch it, see it in person, and/or try it on before I buy, so nothing I buy online seems as good when I get it in person. And that's even with "good" sellers - like the ones that have 100% feedback.

But if you're not receiving certain items at all, either Australia Post is doing something wrong or you're buying from unreliable sellers.

Clothes and shoes can be problematical. Not just on ebay either. I used to sometimes order sale items that were on UCW, which was a home party plan. Some were okay, some were a terrible fit, even though they were the same size.

It's a lot better if you can see and touch clothing and try it on.

If you buy some other things though, you might not be disappointed. I've had some excellent buys on ebay and on other online sales sites for that matter.

And some not so thrilling, even with new stuff.Smiley Sad I've learnt even with new items, to look for brand name and if it is sheets, don't trust any ad that says 'cotton rich'.That's my wisdom for the day.Smiley Tongue
