Why is ebay charging GST in items bekow 1000 dollar's from overseas.

Because it became mandatory since July 1. It's not just ebay , it's everyone. There are lots of threads on the topic so have a look further down the page.

Tax applies to items plus shipping less than 1000 from 1st July 2018.

So now on all imports plus any import duites if applicable.

Better to start buying quality Aussie products.

Buy from Australian sellers in Australia and all will be ok then.

Watch for the OS sellers that put item location as Australia to make the sales but are actually in China
