A few weeks ago I purchased a video game from an overseas seller who is quite highly-rated and has had a lot of well-reviewed transactions on Ebay. Since they were so reputable, I thought it would be a safe purchase as usual.
What actually ended up happening was:
1. Seller sold me a fake game and claimed to be unaware it was fake
2. Upon studying the photos on the listing again, I noticed the cartridge in the photos had some differences to the cartridge I purchased and I'm certain the one on the listing is *not* the same cartridge I received (it was not a stock photo).
3. Seller agreed to refund me in full since the listing title said "authentic" but the game was not authentic
I shipped the item back well within my given time, took photos of how I packed the item and the postage receipt from my post office, and messaged the seller all the details (including cost of return postage as Ebay rules state they should cover it in this case).
About a week later, the item was marked "received" on my postage tracking. Several days pass after that and I don't receive any communication from the seller, so when I receive the email from Ebay asking if I'd received my refund yet and if I want them to step in, I say yes - I get a refund within an hour of opening my case.
I then left a negative review of my purchase on the seller's page. While I did word it firmly due to my frustration at their dishonesty and lack of communication, I want to emphasise that there was *no* profanity whatsoever in my review. I have just checked the seller's page about 8hrs later and I can see my review has been removed by Ebay. I find this unfair and I feel they're taking the seller's side because they're so well-established on this platform, even though I have proof of their dishonesty (I took photos of the listing etc. after I realised the photos didn't match up with the item I received). Why was my review removed?

Did you mention a dispute? Mentioning disputes is against feedback rules...

Probably worth reading up on the policies about feedback as it isn't only profanity that can get comments removed.
If I recall rightly, even something like mentioning that there was a dispute and you opened an ebay claim is a no-no.
It sounds as if the seller is well aware of the rules and has exploited this to get your feedback removed.

As an aside (and forgive me if I'm not understanding your post correctly) - why did you only open a case after you had shipped back? Pretty sure that Ebay won't make a buyer send back a counterfeit/fake item anyway. Overseas sellers cannot issue a postage label and had you opened a dispute in the beginning for Not As Described, you would have just received a refund and finished.
Glad you got some money back, but now you're out of pocket on tracked overseas shipping, which can be quite hefty?

I had issue that justified a neg review which was given, I checked later and it was there along with another neg feedback, lo and behold, I check now and both neg reviews gone and another neg one, so not isolated upsetting folk eh, anyway i check their ebay profile about their rating and it states only 1 neg review in past 12 months, total lies and bs. Why bother with feedback if they remove neg feedback, others need to be made aware of dodgy people, not steered to their site with false information.

Have you read any of the replies made last December? They would probably give you a clue.

eBay is helping fraudulent seller by removing neg. feedback. I bought a pair of pistol grips and when I got them they were two different colors. Supposed to be ivory but they were several shades off. One was yellow the other was white. I contacted the seller and he said I was trying to scam him and he would never send such grips out. I left Neg. Feedback and within one hour eBay removed the feedback. All I left was seller sent grips that were two different colors and when contacted said I was trying to scam him. This is fraudulent on eBays part.

Probably because you left feed back rather than opening a case for INAD...which you should do on eBay.com.

What did you say in the feedback?
If you said anything against policy, yes, it will be removed
It seems you are more concerned about a red dot being removed than getting your money back by opening a dispute
Both your choices
