I buy second hand collectables from small sellers located in the US and Europe. If I have them shipped to me in Australia will GST somehow be charged from July 1? What if shipping is to a US address?

Hi rainy_kate369, had certain politicians not been so keen to privatise our power, gas and other public assets, we could have avoided GST altogether . Now we are taxed on our wages, houses (rates), everything else while the super rich don't pay much.
I have already said that it is so wrong that we everyday people pay GST from small and second hand items ftom those every day people in the US and other overseas countries.
BTW: Some people believe there sould be two classes of people. The super wealthy and the low paid working class that serves them. That's their paradise they deam of. Some others believe that the upperclass system should be preserved at any cost and to try and change things would plunge us into a dark abyss of the unknown and anrachy. This is evidenced by some of the posts here.

To answer your question (rather than post a diatribe about politics), if you buy through eBay then you will pay 10% GST on the item and postage, BUT if you are buying direct from the seller (and their exports to Australia are less than $75,000) you will not have to pay the GST.
Edit. That's assuming the doll and postage is worth less than $1,000.

Do give it a rest 4channel.....you are becoming boring and repetitive. Try giving some advice that may help posters instead of your usual rants against the GST.

rainy_kate, welcome to the boards. If you do not get an answer to your question that you fully understand then please do come back for clarification.
As outlined by padi, GST is payable on overseas purchases made through eBay.
If the item is not shipped with the Global Shipping Program (GSP) then eBay will collect the GST. If you pay by PayPal you will see two payments on your PayPal account, one to the seller and one to the eBay account that GST is paid to.
If the item includes shipping by GSP then eBay will not collect the GST as it will be collected by Pitney Bowes (who run the GSP). They will also charge for filling in the forms required for exporting the item to Australia, as well as the GST payable on that fee.
If you have further questions then come back here. If you let us know the item number we can take a look at the listing so as to provide you with accurate advice.
