Would this be creepy?

OK, I bid on a futon & won it for a LOT less than I was prepared to pay (yay for me) but I feel like I robbed the seller & she was so nice & accommodating about making a time for me to come & collect the futon (she came home from work on her lunch break so I could pick up while my kids were in school).

Anyway, if you were a seller & I sent you a scratchies pack or something to the address I collected from (it is her home address) would you think it was creepy?

I know that it is the luck of the draw when you sell on eBay that the item might go for loads or not much but I was prepared to pay more than triple what I ended up paying so I figure that a $20 scratchies pack kind of splits the difference...

Cheers for the feedback!

No, I would not think it creepy, I think it would be nice ๐Ÿ™‚  especially if she would win something.

Just from a seller's perspective, I've had a couple of buyers pay more than the sale price on their own volition, and one has done it a few times despite my insistence that it's not necessary since they're Buy It Now prices and I set them at a point that is fair to myself... Slightly different situation though as they're items to be posted but I would do the same thing in a pick-up situation - that is, polite refusal once, gracious acceptance if they insist.

I don't think it's weird or creepy, more that it's awesome when you come across someone that values the worth of something to the seller as much as they do themselves, and sometimes even values it higher than a seller does, and is willing to do something like what you've suggested. That is a rare trait, and the kind of thing that makes anything "bad" about eBay seem inconsequential. :-x

I think it's a lovely idea. You will probably make a friend.

No it doesn't sound creepy. Just make a note in the letter that it's a "thankyou" for a wonderful transaction. Things like this are what makes the whole experience great for buyer and seller - when we can give  back and/or just do something that represents a good character.

Sounds like a great idea in principle but I wouldn't send scratchies, my OH found somebodies wallet and returned it and they sent him a card with scratchies. Of course he didn't win anything and would have appreciated a $5 note more which would have cost the sender less lol.

I know you wouldn't feel right sending cash in this instance but how about a thank you gift card for $20.

I too have had buyers pay more as they think the pick up item is better than described and it really nice of them and much appreciated. Like DG I refuse once then take their hand off :^O

One of the people who works here regularly pays more for items that she considers too cheap, or some of them with not enough postage as well.

And one does feel like they are robbing someone on those occasions.

Too late for you now, but the best way is to just pay at the time of pick up or pay more than the invoice into the PP account - then no one is embarrassed (especially the poor seller).

We have all just about stopped bidding on cheap stuff (with very low start)  all affraid  in case any of us ends up being the only bidder!

The person who suggested a card with a gift voucher is spot on, or just say to the seller that you got great item at a too low price and would be much happier if maybe you can pay some more, as you allowed a bigger budget for it to start with.

They will most likely refuse - just tell them it's  not a subjest for disscussion.

I have won some pickup items for dirt cheap in the past and I have always offered the sellers more when picking up.  I had to pick up two items from Penrith one day and the total was something like $1.25.  I felt terrible about getting them at that price so when I turned up I just gave the guy a $20 note and said that I didn't expect any change.  He was grateful that I would do such a thing.
