If the seller has indicated that you can arrange your own pickup or delivery and you don't wish to pickup
then you can contact a courier company to collect and deliver to you at your own expense.
If you go ahead with a courier then you will need to inform the seller of these arrangements so they know
when to have the item ready.

To add to what scrambler said. Is the item going to require any special packing etc to go with a courier. Seller may not feel so inclined. Also, paypal will not cover either you or seller for a pick up item. How were you planning on paying? If you have a friend/rel who can pick up for you just pay seller cash at time of pick up.

Thank you so much scrambler. The item is interstate, so was hoping there was a recommended courier who has dealt with ebay customers previously. I will just have to ask the seller their exact address & take it from thers. Thanks again ๐

Thank you also daydreams. Ithought there was a courier system linked to ebay at sometime previously, but will just find a reputable courier company locally and as you suggested, let the seller know the details. Thank you again ๐

Befpre you go to the bother of finding the courier company make absolutely sure the seller is on board with this. Not only will you have no buyer protection with ebay or Paypal if you were to fund the payment with a credit card the seller would be left wide open to a bank chargeback against which they would have no seller protection.
The only way I would ever agree to a courier delivery as a seller would be if I arranged the delivery and added the cost to the ebay invoice so that I was covered against a chargeback

Something else to consider, if you organise a courier, the pick up time may not be suitable for the seller. If they work full time, they may not be home during courier pick up times. I would be checking all this before going ahead. As it's listed as pick up, you want to make it as easy for the seller as possible. If they do work full time, they could have arranged for a buyer to pick up after hours or on a weekend.
The thing with couriers is, just because they say they are going to pick up at 10.30, doesn't mean they're going to be there then. The last thing the seller wants is to be waiting around all day waiting. Another thing to consider is your location and that of the seller. If you are both in a city, that makes couriers a bit easier, but if either of you are in a rural or regional area, especially the seller, there may not be a courier that can pick up and deliver. I live in a regional area and am very restricted with couriers. I hate it when sellers use a courier because it may have to go via 3 different companies before I get it. More chance of something getting lost.

Thank you so much for the advise, seller will post to an authorised courier & can arrange from there.

Do not buy unless everything is agreed upon first. Use the ebay message system for communication.

If the seller can post to a courier why can't they post directly to you?
Couriers don't accept parcels in the mail....they pick up from the sender ad deliver to the recipient.
This sounds like a transaction that is going to go pearshaped.....the seller doesn't want any responsibility for damage in the mail and stil want to call it a pickup item only.
