cancelled order

Within 30 minutes of placing an order I changed my mind and cancelled it. Despite that the seller arranged shipping. Seller then advised me to refuse to accept delivery. I told the seller I would not be around to do that. Sure enough the item was left at my address. Seller has now offered to refund me $10 provided I keep the order as the return shipping cost "is really expensive". I find this unacceptable and wish to receive back the purchase price. What can I do ? Thank you.

Re: cancelled order

Buyers can't cancel, they can only put in a cancellation request, which the seller is not obliged to honour.

Since you now have the item, why not just sell it yourself? Don't have to sell on Ebay - you could try FB Marketplace.

In saying what I did in the above, I'd just like to add that we all must be aware that there have been quite a few sellers who have listed items at a low price in order to encourage a bidding frenzy. But, if they don't get the price they desire, they cancel the transaction and come up with a range of excuses such as the item has gone missing or it was accidentally dropped on the floor or it has a fault that they were not aware of. Oh, in the "Buy-it_Now" scenario, there have been sellers who have cancelled the transaction and then re-listed the item at a higher price.

Well, whatever happens, I wish the best outcome for you.

What this has to do with the question beats me.

As for the spoiler. Good Grief.

Re: cancelled order

Oh yeah, I'd just like to add to what I wrote below eieio10 that some sellers who sell a large amount of items may have someone else or another entity dispatching the items.  Was this the case with your order?

Hi there. Sorry to hear of your situation. There can be 2 scenarios here. Ah, actually 3.

* One is that the seller gets the items out quick-time and once the horse has bolted there's nothing to do but let it take its course.

* Another is that the seller doesn't check messages much after orders.

* And another is that seller was aware that you had put in cancellation but wanted to get you to accept the item regardless.

In conclusion, a seller .. .. .. a good one anyway checks their messages and posts at the end of the day or next day. That being the case they would easily see your message and then be aware that you changed your mind etc.. Personally, I would allow a cancellation. I would rather there not be one but I would still. At the end of the day I guess that the seller has the upper hand here.

The below is not aimed at you eieio10, just something to get the feet tapping in 2022. My word, what a fine looking lovely lady Carol Douglas was back then. She was an aspiring actress with TV commercial and stage work already behind her, but her big hit "Doctor's Orders" put her acting career on permanent hold.

This should have been as bigger hit as "Doctors Orders" was for her.

All that was necessary is this.

Wot ?  And minimise the confusion ???   In my books Digi's answer clarified the whole situation excellently.

@eieio10
What can I do ? Thank you.

Cant say I’ve ever bought anything I don’t want.  I’ve bought hundreds of items I don’t need, but never anything I didn’t want…. Lol…. But that’s me and doesn’t help you.

Unfortunately, you have 3 choices left.

(1) accept the $10, keep the item and re-sell.
(2) Start a returns process under ‘change of mind’ and you WILL BE responsible for postage costs and WILL NOT be refunded these costs.
(3) Do the right thing and decline the $10, (after all, it wasn’t the seller’s fault that you changed your mind, so why should they be out of pocket too?), keep the item and either sell on, or gift it.

If impulse buying is a problem for you, perhaps utilise the cart better, by placing items in you cart then leaving them there for 1-2days before paying. That way, you can think about whether you actually want to go ahead with the purchase.

That bit in red is classic. Same.😂😄

I think digi's post was spot on, so many people seem to think (and ebay has a lot to answer for this) that they are free to cancel within the hour, when that actually isn't the case at all. It is up to a seller to decide whether to cancel or not and there is nothing magical about an hour either. A person can make a request after 2 hours or 3, it is just that the faster they ask, the more chance there is that the seller might be able to oblige.

I am not sure why so many people seem to click a button and buy and then immediately have a change of mind. What is wrong with these people that they are so indecisive? I'm very indecisive too but I procrastinate and think about it before I buy,  not after.
