eBay Returns system broken - unsent items marked as sent

For the past 2 or 3 months I have experienced a problem with every eBay return I have started (3 in total):-

On day 1 I start the return.

On day 2 a return label PDF is offered in the return.

On Day 3 eBay marks the item as 'sent' and removes the return label download even though the item has not been sent.

This creates numerous problems.

1. The seller is unable to offer a partial refund.
2. The return label is no longer available for download after the item is marked as sent so if you don't grab it when you first see it then it is gone.
3. The seller is confused about the status of the return

I called eBay about this 2 months ago and they said it was a temporary problem with their system.

But it seems to be a persistent problem for me.

Is anybody else experiencing this or is it an account specific fault?

It may be an account specific fault or else you are having awfully bad luck with your timing and striking a temporary problem with their system each time.

I haven't seen anyone else complaining of this and you'd think it would be all over the boards if it had been ongoing for 3 months.

Did you contact ebay help after each episode as perhaps they could help reinstate that label?

Or only after the first time. Did they help you at all then or just tell you to wait?

I did have to initiate a return a couple of months back. The seller did not issue a label till the last possible day but that label didn't disappear so I do suspect it is not a general glitch for everyone.

I don't know how you could fix it but I would suggest if you need to make any more returns, print that label the second you first see it.
