eBay USA's 'Global Shipping Programme'.

Anybody used the new (Oct 12) eBay shipping programme? Inadvertently clicked a BIN with a super fast shipping option and then discovered I had to pay import duties through an external shipping agent Pitney Bowes Inc. User Agreement indicated that eBay and Pitney Bowes Inc. would use any means to recover unpaid fees (not for the seller). How it works! You buy the item (never on purpose after this and this example is a  US$11.00 laptop charger). Then you got to checkout. You pay a $5.99 shipping fee to the seller on top of the $11.00 price. Then you pay insance shipping on the standard USPS shipping. Pitney Bowes a $4.88 Import Duties/Tax/Brokerage Fee based on the value of this item. Here, and in the UK, you would not pay anything to get that in. The shipper then ships it to Pitney Bowes Inc.'s central shipping centre. Then it is shipped to you. And the standard postie arrives with it at your door. The tracking number is not useable on USPS or Australia Post's sites and the hyperlink on the item goes nowhere. US sellers can elect to use this service under shipping tools. I will not be buying anything from sellers shipping in this fashion again. If the item does not list USPS First Class Airmail or USPS Priority Mail be careful. Feel free to send me a message if you need to know more. eBay and the shipper have more rights than the seller with regard to unpaid items and Pitney Bowes make money on the shipping and fees as our Customs don't get a cent. Fees for fees sake... Thanks and good buying..

You sighed, so I assumed you are of the opinion that this quirky little money spinner for eBay was a good thing? I am buying or selling a few things a week, and have been for around 13 years. I just noticed you had been offline since Oct 12. Good to see you back on deck..

You obviously have no idea how to do a board search if you think leader has been offline since October.

And you obviously do not read other threads on the boards...if you did you would see that leader is here regularly.

my sigh was about the idea of a town hall meeting to take on eBay, which is why I quoted that bit of your post before my sigh.  That's all.

As for no activity since Oct 2012 . . . . well . . . . that could not be further from reality.  On this ID I was selling AFL related stuff, and the AFL season ended around . . . . . Oct 2012 . . . . and it hasn't really started up again this year.  Unless you count the NAB cup . . . which doesn't count unless Collingwood win it . . . . .GO THE PIES !!!!

I have been active, very active, on a 'buying' ID I have, and, also active on a selling ID I have where I sell what I buy on the buying ID.  Incidently, I buy a lot of items from the USA.  I have them posted to a friend on the west coast.  He waits til has enough to fill a box and then he sends them to me.  He makes a true declaration as to the contents and their value and I never have a problem.

What is it with multiple IDs? Anyhoo...

I just felt that the way that eBay have engineered it, using the Buy It Now and then the charges come into the equation after the fact, is a poorly thought out choice. Then to find out THEY will come after you for the unpaid monies owed is a bit of a stretch. I felt compelled to proceed. While I think I could have discussed it with the seller (who was unaware of the seller tool he inadvernently ticked) I could have backed out. But then eBay and Pitney Bowes would have the right to go me for whatever amount they imagined?

Wise manner in which to get your gear across. I just pay the USPS their cut. I would estimate I have paid them $25,000 over the years. Hence my grievance in paying for 'Priority' that is nothing more than two shipments in the same timeframe.

Good luck with the AFL sales. The Pies are either a love or hate proposition. It's a no from me. They will do well, despite Buckley at the helm. They have a robust coaching staff mentored by Malthouse. They still now 'stuff'.

I feel your frustration with taking on eBay at anything. I still cringe when I pay my invoices to an account in Switzerland. Shonky..

Simple, I sell on two IDs, and I sell items that are vastly different to eachother.  It makes perfect sense to me that I would specialise.   I buy one particular type of item on another ID (the ones I buy from the USA), and then I sell those items here in on eBay.au for much more than I pay.  Three IDs works great.

There are some boardies who know my other IDs, and what I buy and sell, but I don't actively declare these, nor feel the need to.

Thanks to those posters who came and pointed out that I am active on the boards on this ID.  Sometimes I have ruffled feathers, and I do not always get everything right, and sometimes I share some things that help others greatly (like the eBay/PayPal fees calculating spreadsheet)

I will leave it at . . . . . sigh!

No worries at all. I don't think anyone was bolstering your posts. That was purely another jibe at me. I am well and truly becoming used to it. I did have a dig at one user that had not bought or sold anything in nearly two and half years; however, they were here daily? I prefer to be hunting out rare gems like the one I just secured on Quicksales than bouncing around here. Now that is a user friendly place. I only checked in here again to include the Customs response. Then spied the extra posts ripping into me. I did not even check the box to get updates as they were all the same. Yours has been a welcomed interaction. Once again, best of luck as the AFL season kicks off. Have added you to fave sellers. I am heading OS and I think some of the magnets around the place could wam the place up a bit. Had never seen them. Take care.. TC

all good P-B

Sorry to disappoint anyone who was looking forward to the fantastic AFL related stuff I was selling last year  . . . . . as I will not be selling those items this year.  It was a lot of work for a little return.  I'm going to concentrate on my higher $ items on my other ID.

So, for anyone who may have thought I was posting to advertise . . . . could not be further from the truth.  I have had a lot of my posts removed in recent times, which has me thinking that maybe I have annoyed one particular person a little too much, although I really have no idea who that may be ?:|
