ebays despicable introduction of last chance options for buyers

What a penny pinching effort by ebay to get more fees. To have a level playing field i think that  buyers bidding on items making their  final bids  in an auction should be just that and NOT have ebay present them with a drop down telling them that their bid is not enough and would they like to bid higher with 3  further options of increase.Whilst it increases the sale price, and ebays fees it hardly fair to the buyer thats the highest bidder  before this drop down appears. it's easy for the buyer to know when he's paid more for an item as a result by checking the time and bids made.

That option has come up for me for ages now, don't see any point to it personally (other than you've mentioned, it gets more $ if they 'tempt' a buyer into bidding more than they intentended  . It does seem 'carrot dangling'

Of course eBay are all about the money, most big business is

Should you want eBay to know your thoughts, you'll need to contact them though

Any bidder can choose to bid a higher amount before the last second of an auction, with or without these kinds of tools.

With buyers complaining about sniping tools and / or that they were outbid at the last second and wanting the auction time to extend until no more bids are placed for a certain amount of time, perhaps this was eBay's compromise (i.e. a faster way to up the bid in the last few moments).

I agree Digi.

It is not really new....as you say anyone can up their bid in the last few seconds but this is considerably quicker as it is only a one step bid with no confirmation required.   It only appears if you have already placed a bid though.

I don't understand, if eBay is telling you that you have not bid enough, then you have already been outbid, and if not, and you up your bid, then you still don't neccessarily pay as much as your highest bid. I can't see how this is unfair to the highest bidder. Maybe I am not understanding the question correctly.

You understand the question shoppingbag but I suspect the OP does not understand it.

Re: ebays despicable introduction of last chance options for buyers

An auction is an auction and by definition anyone can still bid until the last second. If you think this is unfair to the highest bidder, what about it being unfair to the seller if an under-bidder doesn't get a chance to put an extra bid in? Where does the highest bidder (at any stage of the auction) have any rights over other bidders?

Or what about the under-bidder? Isn't it unfair on them if they're not given every chance to try and win the item? All ebay are doing is making it easier to put another bid in, especially for people with slow internet or that are using phones. They're just saving time so it's quicker and easier to bid. If the highest bidder doesn't put the absolute maximum in that they're willing to pay and they miss out, they can't blame anyone else.

That is a bit rude. There are mnay experienced buyers and sellers on here that take valuable time out of their day to help people who come to these boards for assistance, many with more or less posts than Lyndal. People who are much more knowledgable than Ebay call centre staff and who should be respected and listened to.

Are you referring to your original question as a waste of time (in regard to other people responding)?

Some of us don't respond for the benefit of the original poster but for the benefit of other people who read (and don't post).
