You could ask for a cancellation and offer to pay their fees however if the seller is already not happy you will either have to pay and could resell it yourself or cop a strike. If it is for the same seller you left a neg for I can't see them being very helpful.

If there are more than 12 hours you can retract your bid, but you need to enter a valid reason.
If there are less than 12 hours, you can retract a bid providing you do so within 1 hour of placing the bid and enter a valid reason.
If the auction has ended and you won, you are obliged the follow through with the purchase, unless the seller is prepared to send you a mutual cancellation that you accept. Otherwise they will open an unpaid item case to get their fees back and your account is issued with a strike.
The time to check the listing is prior to bidding and granted we make mistakes sometimes. Most buyers that accidentally purchase an incorrect item, buy it and resell on ebay to avoid a strike.
Hope that helps.

Yes, pay for the item and re sell or gift it if it is not what you want.

as you seem to be a UK buyer, bidding on UK Items, you really should be asking over there, not here on eBay australia.
however, you bought it with But It Now, so you need to pay. the time to read and decided if it is what you want or not is BEFORE buying , not 3 minutes after, as 3 minutes after the seller has already been charged by eBay for the transaction.
face up to yr responsibilities and pay for your items. You can always re-offer to sell yourself if you dont want it or give it to somone for Xmas!

If I were you, I would just pay for it and then resell it if it wasn't something I wanted. We are all guilty of impulse buying sometimes, however when you think about it, you did have plenty of time to decide whether you wanted to buy it or not. I take it you've already nicely requested a mutual cancellation?
If the seller will not cancel the transaction, you should do the right thing by them and pay for it as it's not their fault you changed your mind.

You don't have to purchase the item.
You will get an unpaid item strike though. That's up to you.
The seller can't force you into the sale.
Just because you pick things up and look at them in Kmart doesn't mean you HAVE to buy it. Until money is exchanged there is no sale.

moon, this is a little more than looking at an item though. This is more like you have ordered an item from k-mart, it's then cost them, and you then decide you don't want it.

OP you are not new to ebay and having sold items yourself I'm sure you know the rules.

If that were true, then there would be no need for unpaid item disputes and buyers could just mess sellers around and not pay for their items..
When you click the Buy It Now button eBay reminds you that by clicking this button you have bought the item and are agreeing to pay for it.
When you use Buy It Now, it removes the item from sale, if you pick up something in K-Mart, decide you don't want it and put it back, the item is still there for someone else to buy.. If you don't pay for something that you bought on eBay (And entered into a contract saying that you will pay for the item) the seller has to pay fees to re-list the item and pay for any Final Value fees unless they agree to a mutual cancellation.
Sellers have to pay fees to list their items and final value fees when they sell, K-Mart don't so your comparison doesn't make sense.
