incorrect item sent

my son purchased an electronic item from USA (paid around $300) they sent a different model which they also sell but it is significantly cheaper.  He has put in a item not as described and he paid with paypal, but I notice on their ebay site they say returns to be paid by the buyer (if item not as described).  How can that be fair when it's their fault?

Re: incorrect item sent

Nobody here can rectify the issue for you, this is a member to member board. As it is you've left it far too late for either eBay or Paypal to help you.

You've lost your money, sad to say.

By the way, in future look at the date of the threads you are replying to and don't drag up a 7 1/2 YEAR OLD thread.

Hi i bought a new battery just before going overseas late last year. I was upset that after i gave all the correct details for. The new battery for Samsung
Galaxy note 3. I received a battery maybe 2 cm too small but same width as the original.
I went overseas for an extended time. As such when i returned the same battery was misplaced.i have now found that wrong battery.
So for me to be an ongoing customer of ebay im expecting someone to get back to me to rectify this issue!?
With thanks gary

You're not on a direct line to ebay here, but just in case you return....

It doesn't look to me as if you are a big ebay user anyway, so ebay won't be too worried if you are an ongoing customer or not.

I think your expectations are unrealistic.

Fair enough, you got the wrong item. However, ebay has procedures in place for you to rectify that by getting a refund. All you had to do was open an item not as described claim. You should have done it as soon as possible after seeing it was the wrong type of battery. Before you went overseas.

Put it this way. If you had bought something from a bricks and mortar store, do you honestly believe you could march in there almost a year later and expect them to give a replacement or money bck on a battery? You'd be hoping! Even shops that allow exchanges often only have a one month window. Why do you assume ebay should have to be radically different?
