Re: is it discrimination to block po. box buyers

No - sometimes it is necessary.

A small/medium size item can go to a PO Box (carded if it is too large and held out the back of the PO) but some items can just not be sent that way.

Someone sending a large item may use a courier as AP will only accept up to a certain size and or weight, and couriers will not deliver

to PO Boxes.

Descrimination ?? Not sure how that could factor in as it is the sellers choice how they send an item.

It is not descrimination at all.

It is a lot easier for a seller to block buyers with an address they do not post to than to have to refund and explain why.

If the seller is using a courier service they cannot deliver to PO boxes.

Re: is it discrimination to block po. box buyers

it would be nice if ebay would allow us to run our business the way we want but you will have to settle with what master ebay allows you to do. Kepp in mind that although some people are registered with a PO box they can and often do change the postal address when they make payment to a treet address either home or work especially if this requirement is clearly stated in the listing.

However for those buyers that insist on delivery to their PO box or dont notice your requirement for street address ebay is not so forgiving if the buyer is upset and decides to leave feedback, you will have a very hard time getting the feedback removed even if the buyers demands contradicts the services offered in the listing.

I don't understand what your post has got to do with my post, but ebay is not responsible for whether sellers will post to a PO Box.  That is between the seller and Australia Post or the courier service used.

If a buyer wants to change their address from their PO Box to a street address they can do it before bidding and the blocks will not be activated.

Re: is it discrimination to block po. box buyers

Of course it is discrimination

It's not, however, illegal discrimination.

Discrimination is something people exercise all day every day when they make decisions. It's a good thing.

Discrimination based on false assumptions is what is discouraged.

Re: is it discrimination to block po. box buyers

Scott,  no-one is disputing that PO Boxes are a necessity for some buyers but that does not mean that sellers have to allow those buyers to deal with them.

If Australian sellers use a courier for example, then the parcels cannot be delivered to a PO Box.

Some shipping services used by overseas sellers cannot be delivered to PO Boxes either.

Re: is it discrimination to block po. box buyers

My post wasnt a response to yours lyndal I just pressed the first reply button I saw.

My reference to ebay was that they do not allow us to select only specific areas to post to or have any methods to prevent a buyer from making a purchase if they have PO box linked to their account and even if I state no po boxes inb the listing and the buyer insist on it and leave negative feedback because of the restriction ebay will not remove it. so we are limited to the options ebay will allow us to have and at their mercy and the buyers because ebay favours buyers over seller in disputes especially feedback.

Re: is it discrimination to block po. box buyers

At this time we allow PO BOX address on most of our items.

Exception is for computer cases. Australia Post will not accept them because of the cubic size or actual weight exceeds their limits. (22kg).

Our courier does not deliver to Australia Post outlets/PO Box (unless customer pays lot more for delivery..).
