Seller is not permitted to offer to deal outside ebay. Maybe he is a new seller and doesn't know.
Why not send a nice Christmassy email saying - "thanks but i don't want to deal off ebay because it is against ebay policy".

NO.
And don't do it you will have no cover whatsoever if it doesn't go well.

No and if the message was by the ebay messages then you can click on report this message (found at the top of the message) and select the option to suit the report.

Why not just send a nice Chrissy Message
Dear Shonkster.
Your offer is very generous & has been reported.
Have a Merry Chrissy.

Against the rules … but nowadays no one cares …
.
Ebay have become such an unethical company that people are happy to avoid their fees, especially their FVFs on postage …
.
The fact they do nothing to sort out the scammers …
.
Do everything to screw the sellers …
.
Once I would never trade out of ebay …
.
Now I encourage my repeat buyers to contact me directly … and they do …
.
No one has any respect left for ebay
.
.
It is not over until the Fat Ladies post

Yep fully agree with you on that one stuff Feebay and there over the top policies, only reason they do not want dealings outside of Feebay is they miss out on big fat selling fees.

workm_cass - you want to report the seller?
What on earth for?!
For givinng you the chance to save some money!!!
And those who suggested your purchase and money wouldn't be covered are so wrong.
Just about everyone in the world has PP these days - I shop off Ebay all the time and have never come across any store that doesn't.
Nor did I ever come across a shonk - which is more than I can say about shopping on Ebay.
In spite of all the "measures" Ebay has set in place to somehow eradicate the shonky sellers - they are still around - and flourishing.
And - what do you care about what Ebay may think about buying something from someone at a better price?
Can't be the fierce loyalty - or is it/
If that is the reason - it's very noble and admirable - but wasted in Ebay's case.

It is against ebay rules, but have you thought maybe you upset the seller?
I take it it was a 'or best offer' item.
Maybe you offered a really low amount.
The seller by rights should just knock back a low offer, but maybe the seller is fed up and saying.. Look, if you expect to get it at that price, I will only sell it if I don't cop the ebay fees.
A bit like tradies who offer it cheaper for cash in hand.
My own response would depend on the sale. If it's a pick up item, I would be prepared.
If it is a person with their own trading website, I might consider it.
A private seller-probably not. I would want to pay via paypal.
