The new rating requirement "How would you rate this item?* is completely pointless for the items I buy as I usually don't get a chance to watch the DVD's and Blu-ray's; nor listen to the CD's I buy until sometime later.
It's a comment that cannot be skipped so I am now unable to rate the DVD's, Blu-ray's and CD's I buy, nor the sellers I buy them from because I cannot rate an item until I have been able to use it.

Yes, there have been numerous posts about this
Other members have no power over it
'Community feedback' is not giving feedback to eBay, who seldom read the member to member forum

Alternative perspective... It's not asking for a review of the product's contents, it's asking for a product rating, I view these things differently, personally - to put that in perspective, leaving a rating out of 5 stars is the only feedback method for sellers available on many sites, it is there for every product from books, to clothing and jewellery, to art prints, rarely are people compelled to go all Fantano on music purchases, or personify David Stratton for DVDs when leaving their feedback - I mean, are you going to regret giving a movie X stars on ebay if you watch it and you opinion doesn't = X?
If, one day, people say "Velocipastor has a 4.7 star rating on eBay, with one user - digital*ghost - going so far as to say it was 'the greatest film in history' in their feedback" * instead of "...on Rotten Tomatoes", maybe then it'll be time to take it more seriously, in the meantime, rating the product as a product and not how much you like the content of the product is probably fine.
*Disclaimer, it's not the greatest film in history, but it is a darn good watch 😆

I agree with original comment. I buy books which for most part I have not read. So all I can comment on is the condition of book and that is covered already covered: is item as described by seller. I’d just like clarification as to what ebay wants/ expects from this ill considered question.

If something gets great reviews it encourages others to buy......and vice versa

I dunno, seems pretty clear to me (screenshot in spoiler for anyone that hasn't seen it). Literally the only difference between the old feedback form and new is eBay putting a star rating there and the question "how would you rate this product?" - they are not asking for reviews, there's the bit to leave pos, neut, neg FB, a comment and the detailed star ratings for description, postage costs etc which was all there in the old form. Screenshot of the old form in the second spoiler tag for comparison.
Anyway, if you wanna know how I got two review options for the same purchase, one with the star rating and one without, the one without is the form for all products when you leave feedback in bulk. If I click "leave feedback" on an individual purchase, the star rating appears, so if you're really averse to clicking some stars in addition to all the stuff you normally do, wait until you have 2+ items to leave feedback for, and use desktop / full site via mobile browser.

I didn't buy an item so I could see this new requirement, but I was interested in seeing it. Item arrived today, same old feedback form. Maybe because I'm using a laptop, or they are introducing this gradually, or it is only on certain products. But so far the 'new requirement' is not showing to everyone on all products.
