On most of seller <Removed> listings they claim they can charge storage fees.

An example here.

Surely against policy?

They are within their rights to charge a storage fee if not picked up by a set date and if you purchase you are buying under those conditions.

It might make some buyers of pick up only item pick up in the time frame specified rather that breaking pick up time dates as happens way too often.

it's allowed. If you can't pick up within the time frame don't bid.

eBay policy can say whatever it likes but, it don't mean diddley if it's covered under Aus Law and the charging of storage fees is quite legal provided the person charging said storage fees complies with their legal obligations.

When you bid on an item you accept the terms of that item, If it stipulates pickup within 5 days, then you must pick up within 5 days. If you cannot comply with terms then dont bid.

As far as storage fees, this is a standard practice in all Auction Sales.

Since it is a normal practice the price is probably an incentive to you saying..come and get your item within the 5 days.

And as a subnote about not paying. The seller has your agreement to buy item under ebay, you name, your address. If he cannot recoup costs from paypal, he will be able to do it through the legal system. Consumer law protection goes both ways.

I guess in reality, the seller is just after someone who picks up within the week, so my guess is if you rang up beforehand and made a mutually agreeable time that happened to be day 6, the man would not be asking for an extra $50.

But.. if he got someone who paid and then left it there, by the end of week 2 (depending on the cost of the item) he would probably say the person had forfeited their original outlay in storage fees and so they no longer owned the item and he was free to relist.

How legal all that is I do not know, but put it this way.. it is a pick up item and as i understand it, is not covered by paypal.

The terms are there in his ad and my understanding is storage fees can be charged. And if you were the buyer and did not collect, you might annoy the seller but I don't think you would necessarily come off best in this.

If you had not paid at all, the seller could hit you with an unpaid item dispute after 4 days.

If you did pay and just did not turn up for 2 weeks, I suspect you would arrive to find the seller would not give you the item at all. You might not end up paying a storage fee, but he would not hand it over till you did, and if you let it too late, he would probably have re-sold it anyway.

I am not saying I necessarily agree with the seller's charges etc, just saying what i think might happen, because this is one seller who isn't prepared to be mucked around by the sounds of it.
