how do you become a private buyer?

The quickest and easiest way is to go to Customer support, top right of toolbar and type in "make feedback private". A link will come up with explanations of private feedback and another link to click to make your own feedback private. You can not sell items with private feedback, only buy. Now that ebay have stopped showing peoples purchases in feedback, the private settings have much less use than they once did. ( unless you have comments you want to hide ) ........ OK. OK. I know mine is private, I,ve just got used to it now and cant be bothered changing back. ( plus, I just like a bit of privacy )

All buyers are private on eBay - everybody else sees your ID in the same format that you see theirs.

Only you and the seller can see your whole ID.

If you log out of eBay and have a look at an item you're bidding on (as a guest) you won't be able to identify your ID.

There are still plenty of other ways that people can snoop around in an ID,s private business. Having private feedback just makes things one step harder for the less experienced snoopers. I dont really have anything to hide and have a fairly low "care factor" about it all, but dont see why my transactions are any-one elses business really. ( theres no lacy knickers or inflatable toys in my purchase history UNFORTUNATLY  ) As I say, I just like a little bit of privacy and its fairly hard to find on Ebay.
