I would check your address on your Paypal account & definitely change your password.

You don't have any purchases listed in the last 30 days.
Is this an E-bay purchase, or something that you were sent a separate paypal request for.
PayPal does not protect purchases outside E-bay, so if the request was sent only through Paypal then it's not covered.
Sorry, but you've probably given it away.

Annie, Paypal covers all purchases, whether inside or outside eBay.
I paid by Paypal for 2 items on 2 separate websites (not eBay & not auction sites) - one was purchased before Oct 31 & one after.
As both items did not arrive within 42 days, Paypal have refunded my money. I know one did not reply to Paypal's request for more information because they wrote me a threatening email trying to force me to close the case & the other supplied an iffy tracking number. I will not deal with either of these companies again.
If U do just a private transfer of money, I doubt whether the money is covered.

Yes, Paypal does cover payments (subject to their terms and conditions), for transactions made outside eBay. There would be no eBay protection of course, but there is also recourse from your bank if the payment is funded by a credit card. Different banks have different time limits on credit card chargebacks but it is worth talking to them, too. You just cannot claim from Paypal AND your bank at once, because you cannot get refunded twice if you see what I mean. But if Paypal fails, the bank might help. Just be aware of any time limits and definitely get the ombudsman involved if no luck.
I have bought goods with Paypal payments online through a few different retailers and you get the same protection statement on your receipt ๐

Best to go to Financial Ombudsman service. Do it on online if you like. I got a refund from two sellers even though it was past a 10 month period. I think its your only hope(by what you've said) of getting your money back. They will need as many details as you can give them. Good Luck.
Michelle, the buyer is in New Zealand so contacting the Australian authorities is of no use to him.
